This show has surprised me quite a bit so far. Actually enjoying it quite a bit but I'm prepared for a lot more drama to come.

Considering that we are getting a complete adaptation, at least I don't think we'll get an anime original ending.

Haven't watched it, the idea of taking on the messiness of teenage romance and actually acknowledging that sex is a big part of love sounds super interesting.

But at the same time everything I read make it seems like most character (lead included) are just awful people, and not just that the messy adolescence make them act in awful way but that they are basically awful people made even worse because of puberty and even once puberty will pass they still will be awful human being, and that's doesn't seem interesting at all.

Maybe if one of the lead was actually in love with the other one and was just going along for the ride cause that was the best they could hope for that'd be interesting, but it seems like they both actively hate each others. Also are they going to actually discuss the idea of being just sex friend, i.e. sex with no feeling or are they just going to act like the two are necessarily bound together and that if the two have sex they must obviously fall in love?

Definitely my favorite series of the Winter, even with returning series.

TheAnimeSnob is already hating on it, too. Thats a sign of success in my book. :p

I'm a bit confused about the the scene where Mugi pushes down the music teacher and sexually assaults her, and then he says "I didn't think you'd let me do that. I wish you would have just yelled at me". He's talking about Hanabi, right? Since he's just using her as a substitute? Just want to be clear of if there's any need to walk around eggshells of rape since the show painted that scene in a rather ambiguous manner.

Episode two was pretty good. I enjoyed Hanabi reacting to her two classmates talk about love only in terms of what would be most beneficial overall, rather than the yearning emotion. Moka I can already tell will really annoy me, and Ecchan barely got much of any attention at all. It's pretty obvious that Hanabi is no longer using Mugi as a substitute which is why she no longer calls him onii-chan (except when reminded). Whereas Mugi is much more guarded as to what he really feels.

It's a solid watch and is much more entertaining than the standard cliche high school romance thus far.

This show reminds me of when Maria the Virgin Witch was airing, and based on the title alone, I was convinced it wasn't going to be my kind of thing (but then quickly became one of my favorites of the season). Two episodes in, and this is definitely my most anticipated show so far.

I really like what was said about the two supporting characters, how they handle their self-hatred in comparison to the protagonists. I'm interested to see how the teachers' mentalities figure into all of this (at least the music teacher given the cryptic shot of her in the opening).

I'm pretty sure that's a sign that it exists and was made in the past 15 years.

While I am in no position to relate to the characters and their dilemmas, I must say I am surprised that something so mature and measured could come about with little fanfare. This review is excellent: even without seeing the anime, I gain a sense of what it is about real relationships—complicated and of fragile health as I assume they are—to which Hanabi and Mugi's situation gives direct expression.

At this juncture I would typically say that I am eager to watch further episodes, if only to broaden my own awareness. Sadly I cannot. Curse you, online-retailer-with-a-rainforest-namesake!

I'm in the same boat as you. I cannot relate at all to the characters as my adolescence was nothing like it. However that's also why I find it fascinating. It's a take on the genre that you don't see from anime and seeing something different than what was my norm, well, is intriguing.

Not gonna lie, it definitely makes me feel uncomfortable at points but I guess that's the point. Looking forward to seeing how it all turns out.

Yes, he was only imagining Hanabi as his teacher then; seeing her form instead of Hanabi's.

I never though a show about such unhealthy relationships could be so good. Anime hyper

Moka is my favorite character right now. I love that she's so aware of her own delusions instead of naively believing what she sees is real.

I've been enjoying this show quite a bit so far, much to my own surprise. There's rarely been a more realistic portrayal of adolescence in anime. I don't find it quite as depressing as some people seem to ( i rather appreciate its sense of humour, actually), though i can relate to the characters and their struggles quite a bit.

I just hope the show can keep up this kind of quality and won't descend into predictable melodrama territory later.

So far it has been very faithful to the original and extremely well done. One of the finest casting choices, in my opinion, is Aki Toyosaki as Akane, the music teacher. I can't wait to see what she does with the role!

Whoa, now that's what I call an episode review. A quick skim read and you could probably mistake it for a comprehensive end of series overview. It's just the sort of meaty character analysis I love to sink my teeth into, very interesting read.

Feels a bit strange to say but I really am enjoying Scum's Wish at the moment. It may cover some pretty dark and painful emotions but so far it's doing it really well, undoubtedly a compelling watch. I'm not a glutton for punishment but it's so refreshing to watch something that's not afraid to explore the more hateful, or should I say the less romantic side of love that most people like to gloss over and pretend doesn't exist.

It's great that Mugi and Hana aren't just character archetypes with predetermined parameters, they feel like actual people. They make the kind of rash and ill conceived decisions you'd expect from teenagers on the cusp of being swallowed up into the big wide world. Any choice is good enough as long as it lets them take control of their identity, completely self-destructive but oh so believable.

It's a bit ironic, if this was a live-action series I'd probably have little to no interest in it. Yet a medium which is more often than not quite unrealistic in it's portrayal of life (being usually pure escapism after all). Has me fully invested so quickly in something that feels so true to life.

It may be slightly depressing but it's raw, real and very watchable. Going forward SW is a priority watch for me this season, unless something goes drastically wrong over the course. I'll also be anticipating the reviews that come with every episode.

The target audience for this anime is more young adult; that would be around age 15+.

That being said, some individuals (such as myself) can relate to this anime only because I dated a girl in high school who had short hair and what not. We also had sex, so there's that too and but also other sexual fantasies; hers possibly wanting bisexual experience - which is quite popular with girls around that age as well.

Can't really relate to the neighbor (oni-chan) or tutor thing though - that's where your typical anime cliche occur.

All in all, it's a fantastic anime that includes FULL realistic sexual experience while not including nude content (which would put it into the hentai genre) rather mature audiences liking. They're pushing for the DARK FREAKY psychology of sexual desires at a young age in this anime.

I have a feeling this anime will get very DARK soon. That's what'll make it even more interesting. Twisted Evil

TheAnimeSnob hates everything that isn't Jojo's.

I'm also not sure I find this to be as downright depressing as some people have (then again, I am a borderline sociopath), but that's just for now. I hear things get a lot worse as it goes. Definitely the "surprise" title of the season for me, and I do respect it for dealing with tough issues that a lot of romance stories (not just in anime!) won't touch with a ten foot pole. I also really love the art design of the show, it really gives off the feeling of a melancholic painting with a thin outlines and soft pastels. Overall it think the first two episodes were pretty solid, so I'll stay tuned for the show itself as well as the in-depth reviews (almost more interesting to me than the actual show, lol).

How can anime ever be an insightful ACCURATE representation of teen romance?

Impossible on many levels. Show's great though!
