I have a hunch this project may have evolved into ARMS.

Guess it makes sense considering how people felt about Star Fox Zero.

It's been ages since I've ever heard anything concerning Giant Robot...Perhaps it eventually resulted in becoming Arms instead of being scrapped...

I had forgotten this even existed. It makes sense that it no longer exists.

Those were my thoughts too. Both are nontraditional 3-D fighting games, and the color scheme is quite similar between them (and the art style, to an extent).

Not really considering SFZero was the newest entry in a series that hasn't been relevant since the Nintendo 64. Whereas this was a new IP.

Well Star Fox suffered from the main problem being that nobody liked it's gimmicky control scheme, What do think that says about that Giant Robot game got cancelled then?

Giant Robo was likely cancelled less because of a gimmicky control setup and likely because Nintendo had no faith in it selling especially on a system they been trying to brush under the rug for 2 years now.
