I am hoping that Viz tries harder with this roll out than they did with the Boruto film, which played on an inexcusably small number of screens.

Eh, assuming it's the normal Cineplex ticket price for Wednesdays, I'm not gonna pay ~$12 to watch a movie that's only an hour long (not counting that short they're also showing) and one that I've owned on DVD for the past 17 years (albeit with a new dub, although I'm not a dub fan so it's moot to me).
Maybe if it were all 3 of the movies back to back, that'd be worth the ticket price.

I don't understand the ticket prices on this film, either.
They're charging $15 for this film and it's not even 3-D (which I would REFUSE to pay to see anyway!).
I already indicated in another thread that the ticket prices decided my decision for my decision for me... I'm waiting it out and WILL buy the film on Blu ray but they're not getting my money for theater showings at such ridiculous ticket pricing!
It's the ONLY film that's priced this outrageously at the local art theater! Everything else is normal pricing...!
Advance tickets are up for Red Turtle, the film that Ghibli co-produced, for next month. The tickets are $8 for evening showings for THAT film (which is new; Sailor Moon R is two decades old!!!!) which is IN LINE with usual pricing!
I understand that it has a new dub -- it's the SECOND English dub for this film -- but I still think it's NOT worth the $15. I'll save my money for the Blu ray in April!
What were they thinking with the ticket prices on these showings, ESPECIALLY so close to the DVD/Blu ray release dates?!?!?!?!?!?!?

This is an event showing. Event showings at theatres are not new and they have always been more money than the regular ticket prices. It's no different than going to a play: It's a one-off unique experience.
The only reason we even get this on the big screen is because it is an event; We would never get this otherwise.
There are people who think that this is worth it and are really looking forward to it. Besides, big city Canucks are paying $13.25 for regular tickets, anyway, so $15 isn't that big of an extravagance.

Thanks to my Scene Card, I've got about 4 free movies coming to me. I'll use one of them for this, if I'm allowed.

I'm not going to call bull on you because you might be Canadian BUT in the US I have NEVER seen an "anime event" feature film charge $15 like this.
I'm sorry but you're mistaken at least from my POV.
I've watched multiple Ghibli films in mini-festivals and other anime films... Big ones like Ghost in the Shell and at least a few dozen others -- all non-Ghibli.
These were priced like normal first-run Hollywood films AND most independent movies.
Sailor Moon R is the first "event" film where they charged anything like $15.
"Other event films" at least had a cosplay contest or something else going on but even they didn't charge this.
It's an aberration. This is very, very abnormal ticket pricing for something like this.
The others were all under $10 -- LOCAL art theaters.
I already told you in my previous post that they already have advance tickets for Red Turtle and those are $8 which is standard for night showings AND it's a brand-new Studio Ghibli co-production.
It's the SAME theater that's showing Sailor Moon R right now.
So what's NORMAL about the pricing on Sailor Moon R?
Around where I live, even the 3-D showings are $12 which is LESS than any 20-year-old animated film, new dub or not.
For $15, I would have expected to see at least TWO films, not one that's barely 60 minutes long on its own!
Event pricing, if that's what it is, is pure B.S. marketing and double-speak -- but then again this is Viz... IF any company in anime licensing knows the best way to kill enthusiasm and drive people out the door never to come back OR to cause permanent bad feelings against them, it's Viz.
This comes from 20 years experience as a customer and observer. There are some genuinely screwed up things going on at Viz... always have been.
I KNEW back in the day at the first anime cons that I went to that Viz had issues... It came from the bean counters and higher-ups... THEY made the final editorial calls and pulled the plug on manga and anime that were NOT selling enough FOR THEM AND these guys were the ones who NEVER justified/told the fans why things were stopped... They just stopped and you rarely heard a word from Viz about these things. The "word" almost always came outside of the company and was stated by retailers or industry watchers.
Other companies have delayed releases and started them up again, or straight admitted sales were bad and cancellations were necessary. Again, NOT A WORD FROM VIZ... Rarely, if ever...
Make no mistake, I'm NOT mad at you.
I'm not really even arguing with you, either... I'm just explaining why it's ridiculous to call this "event pricing."
Tons of other companies have done MUCH more to promote anime in North America BETTER and MORE AFFORDABLY than Viz has. GKids, Funimation, and even Disney with its Tokuma/Ghibli licensing agreement have promoted much more with good will.
