Loved his collaboration with Daisuke in XOI. He's in Japan right now so it's the perfect timing for the YOI staffs to cast him and they say Giacometti Christophe was also based from him. What's with MAPPA attracting evry possible fandoms out there? it all started with Yuzuru to Hannibal

I'm excited about this latest guest appearance too, and eager to see how it will be used :) It has been so cool to learn more about the figure skating world and individual skaters past and present. I also love seeing people from different communities, fandoms, and nationalities come together in shared enthusiasm for this work.
Hmm, I hadn't heard anything about Christophe being based on Stéphane Lambiel. I wouldn't claim any expertise or insight on the subject, but are people just making theories because they're both Swiss, or are there actual similarities besides that...?
I do try to maintain a healthy awareness of the line between fiction and reality in my own mind. The similarities in the story to real events or people contribute a fascinating sense of realism and immersion to the world of Yuri on Ice. But it's tempting to get carried away, and I think especially with "this character is based on that person" theories (or even when it's been confirmed by a creator), it's important to recognize that inspiration (borrowing elements that contribute to the story the creators want to tell—a costume design, specific skating habits, etc) doesn't mean anything else will match up to reality (from personality to professional career to private life). Both the fictional characters and the real athletes are admirable and interesting for their own sakes! :)

I wonder how they'll handle this in the dub. Makes me think that Sonny will either leave his performance as-is or will try to get him into the studios himself.

Since the Japanese language version had him speaking French (with subtitles) for this, wouldn't the English just do the same? (it might be a little different for the other guest-appearances by real Japanese skaters/announcements...)
