UGH PIANO SQUALL.

His musical adaptions are nice, but his actual piano playing is terrible. He bangs the chords, he never bothers bringing out the melody, and if he played for any self-respecting piano teacher, s/he'd shake his/her head sadly.

His popularity derives solely from those who don't know anything about the piano.

I'm glad his hard work is giving him some recognition, but his "music" makes me wince. There's a difference between a pianist and a piano player, playing music and playing notes, and Piano Squall embodies the latter.

Hehe, my sentiments exactly!

I can't say I'm too thrilled with the musical line up for Otakon this year, especially when they've had L'Arc and TM Revolution in the past. *sigh*

Yeah, I was hoping for a really good concert this year after L'Arc and all (which I missed, darn it Crying or Very sad), but my expectations aren't that high now. Might as well miss this year's concert as well.

I wish AnimeNorth had as-cool guests for their convention as Otakon's. I wish I could go to see Indigo, but Piano Squall's amateurish at best. I was looking at his website, and while I appreciate that he orchaestrated and wrote sheet music for the Final Fantasy series, there are two things that have to be considered:

1) The music from the FF videogames have become really, really bad in the last 4 installments. FF7 had beautiful music that worked together between the songs. FF8 had memorable individual tracks, though it still paled in comparison. 9, 10, 10-2 and 11 are just forgettable. It all went downhill after FF7, in my opinion, so listening to him play's no big deal.

2) He's amateurish, in terms of skill level. I may not play the piano, but at least I've got good ears. He needs to take his performances up a notch and actually make the music resonate and sweep, like it's meant to be. He pounds his notes out, and listening to him perform is a rather trite, flat and a watered-down experience for me. You can hear it for yourselves on his website, where he offers samples.

Wait, let me get this strait. Piano Squall....this is just some random fanboy playing other people's pieces? Just praticing sheet (did he actually write it out by ear? I know that video game sheet music is avialable.) music and then playing it, just like every other kid that went/was forced into piano lessons?

What the bloody hell, how is that special? Any pianist could do that! ^_^; I'm not even going, but as a musician that's just sort of...depressing. Otakon, Otakon....*sigh* seems like their guests get less interesting every year. Excluding Laruku.

I wish Anime Expo had the Indigo. They are my favorite group. Oh well, have fun at Otakon.

They can't get an act as big as L'arc every year. Think of how hard thay had to work for that.
