I wonder how mugging another magical girl for candles works. Do you beat the candy of of them? Grab their phone and set up a transfer? Force them to say "take my candy" or something? Hopefully episode 3 answers the question, especially with how outnumbered and outgunned Team Good Guys is.

My bet is that they take most of Snow White's candy, but she only ends up in second to last place and Tama (heh) the dog girl dies. I'm also curious as to who the 16th magical girl will be.

So far the show is quite entertaining!

I'll raise you with La Pucelle donating most of his candies to save Snow White and Tama or him biting the dust.

And just to go out on a limb, I'm guessing endgame is Snow White goes uber-righteous and kills off ALL the magical girls to stop anyone from every competing in this again, before killing herself to ensure a complete end to the cycle. Laughing

The death at the end of episode 2 left me optimistic for the rest of the series. "Optimistic" is kind of a weird word to use in that context, but I thought the scene was handled with a surprising amount of grace and dignity, when I expected the show to become super schlocky the instant characters started dying. However, episode 3 ended up conversely leaving me cold, because the revelations were built up as shocking when they really weren't, and the presentation of the scene where the reveal happened wasn't anything special. It doesn't help that the show attempted to really pile on the dramatic irony beforehand with other characters wondering what happened to the deceased, to the point of the pacing becoming cumbersome. I can only hope that going forward, the series takes more cues from that death, than from most of the events surrounding it.

Paul didn't mention it in his review, so I will: be careful of this show, if like me, you are a big softie, susceptible to emotional manipulation. It has a sting in its tail that I've already felt. Two episodes in and I was already hoping there was going to be a Reset at some point.

These first three episodes feature plenty of moments where the viewer's jaw is supposed to drop, like when Fav first announces the impending cuts and when the girls realize that getting dropped means death. At this point though, these twists elicit a feeling of “been there, done that” more than they inspire shock or horror.

At least have to give them credit for getting these more standard twists out of the way when another series might wait longer. The twists they're saving for later should be better.

Very good so far. There could be a big fight in the next episode.

Not only that, but I didn't get the sense that the show was expecting people's jaws to drop at those so-called "twists." The prologue scene in the first episode was a pretty good sign the show assumes you, the viewer, already know the broad strokes.

Right now, I don't think the show was expecting us to be shocked by anything. It was showing how the *girls* were shocked by it. It also sets up the relationships and personalities of the girls. IMO, the idea isn't to shock us, but rather to make us want to see how the magical girls react from here on out.

To be honest, this show reminds me somewhat of My-Hime in how it sets things up, though it held off on its twist for quite a bit longer, and then it hit a reset button for most characters at the end. That's not going to happen here, thankfully.

And as for the suggestion that Snow White ends up taking everyone out and then killing herself to prevent this sort of thing from ever happening again: that won't work. F_a_v can simply create new magic girls, and probably has done so many times over already. This whole set up is *designed* to cause magic girls to fight one another, for whatever reason. And that last "update" was the icing on the battle-royale cake.

Also, I agree with the suspicion that Full Speed isn't a nice person.

Edit: Apparently ANN's idiot scripting tool likes to change F_a_v (without the underlines) into "favorite". This is not cool.

Yeah, I also agree with the idea that the show isn't trying to shock you with it's premise. The first death and the stakes of the game are delivered rather matter-of-factly. It knows you were expecting this and doesn't try it present it as something you didn't totally see coming.

I'm liking more of the cast than I expected to. Snow White, Top Speed, Ruler and her faction, even the robo magical girl is charming in just how weird a concept it is. Calamity Mary is probably the most obnoxious so far. Of course, this probably means she'll be sticking around for a while.

Episode #1-3:

To me, the 3rd episode was the weakest of the bunch. It felt like something is going to happen, and then some more build-up, that led to more build-up, that led to end credits. Slow-burn episodes are fine and all -- they present a chance to get more familiar with the characters and the settings -- but this episode's pacing felt off, like it was clearly baiting. A select few Magical Girls (taking bets that they are the core, last-ones-to-die cast) learn the truth, then all the Girls learn the truth, and then a "timely" update...

I'm also a bit confused on that Candy-sharing part and that the sender (or was it the sender's device) doesn't have to be "online" to share Candies. Hopefully next episode will clear that up.

Easily the most, "Okay", show I'm sticking with this season. There's nothing I love about it, but also nothing particularly bad.

I certainly disagree that the show is somehow trying to shock us with the Battle Royale revelation, not only is it the blurb on the back cover, the first episode opened In Medias Res with tons of corpses and there was even that wonderful little scene of bathos were the mascot just casually tells us about the death game with no sense of urgency or grandeur at all(well...I found it funny...).

With that said I feel the show could use some brisker pacing to get through some of these earlier scenes, as they do feel a rather superfluous. So in other words the standard Light Novel adaptation problems. The show could still turn out really fun though, so I'll stick with it.

I mostly enjoy the show so far but my biggest concern is they're either going to turn the gender fluid character evil or kill them off or both and that's going to have unfortunate stereotyped implications.

Well well well, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't surprised by the events that unfolded in this episode. Rather thoughtful, and extremely satisfying

Wow, wasn't expecting Ruler to die so quickly. It's definitely nice to see Nemurin's last words as a magical girl having an effect.

I've got to give the show props, Ruler's death was extremely well done. It was a legitimately well done plot twist that was properly foreshadowed, while still being very unexpected and even setting up Swift Swim as an interesting character for future developments. The show is certainly nothing deep, but if there's more episodes like this I could see it becoming a pretty fun time.

I stuck with the show purely because I like the genre, but I'm glad to see hints that it could end up quite entertaining in its own right. I'd like for it to have taken a bit less than 4 episodes to do that, but better late than never.
