I know Kichijouji pretty well and I can totally see why people think it's such a great place to live in Tokyo: It's got a really lively music scene, there's all kinds of shops and good places to eat around the station, which is on the main chuou line and as convinient to Tokyo as you could get (there's also a second line, the Inokashira-line which goes straight to Shibuya), it's by a large beautiful park, it's renowned for its hip, modern culture, etc etc...

But I have seen the scary underbelly of Kichikouji, yes I have... Nice place to visit, but don't actually move there! Go two stops down to Mitaka and be way happier. You can always visit.
