Anime is usually based off of manga, games, and books. As such, they are "derivative works" and often have filler. This case is a reverse where anime is the "underlying work" and the novel is a "derivative work". Thing I wonder is when would you consider the new info to be canon vs. the novel version of filler.

First thought: It did well enough to warrant getting additional stuff?

Second thought: Ohhhhhh... that was probably something planned for a second season and it got downgraded to novel.

Wait, it premiered April 1st?

...That may have been the greatest harbinger of the show's nature we could ever receive.

Do they even have hopes of this selling at all or is it a last ditch effort to recoup some losses? I'm not sure about what the stalker's estimate is, but this looks exactly like the kind of show that appeals to no one -except Nick Creamer and the crowd that's still convinced this was an exercise in purposeful trash- and bombs hard on disc sales. Since it's an original it doesn't have a source material boost to keep it afloat, and I haven't seen any merchandise for it either. I remember there was news shortly before it premiered that the show was funded through Kickstarter, so I'm really curious about hearing the production history of this absolute trainwreck

Dammit, what about Nanko? We didn't get anything on her, and she was clearly the most capable person in that crazy group. >(

Agreed, also I'll vote with whiskeyii for Nyanko too.Why or how they decided to highlight two of the less interesting characters for this is another mystery, maybe they think it'll be absurdly funny to see "fans" (what few there are) buying this. I'm afraid the joke will be on them... Laughing

I'm surprised this warrented anything, but reading the other comments gave me the more sensable explanation of a second season that got downgraded.

I watched all of Lost Village and I certainly don't care about any of the characters xD

Huh really? Does anyone know if the anime is even doing all that well in terms of sales? Even though I'm in the camp that loved this and thinks it was intentional I can't imagine it actually selling well so seeing more from it surprises me.

The essence of this show is a bunch of people who have debilitating secrets, and who are therefore miserable, collect together following a dream of trying to easily escape those secrets. Most such secrets in young people like these are childhood traumas, and such traumas are especially intractable because kids' minds are mostly emotion and very little reasoning, so when bad things happen to them they can't "think" themselves OK again.

I think that liking or not liking this show comes down to one thing—did you suffer any such trauma or did you not? If you did, or can IMAGINE what that might feel like to have done so, you will like the show, and in fact it will occasionally thoroughly creep you out. If not, not.

If the show has a following, as it seems to me from this announcement that it does, that suggests to me that childhood trauma is common—or possession of imaginative empathy is.

I'm glad about the latter.

This is the most baseless and borderline offensive generalization I've read in a while. You have no right to be telling people they don't understand what a trauma is like just because they didn't like a show that was terrible or weren't able to empathize with shallow and badly written characters. The show's premise is that something as stupid as "not being tall enough and getting a silicone boob in your head" or "having an imaginary friend" is a trauma, so on the show's own rules, pretty much everyone has a trauma. So no, having or not having a trauma or "psychological scar" does not change the fact that the show is crap

I don't believe so. Unless a second season was going to be a prequel. From the sounds of it, both novels will take place before the events of the TV series. It could be content that was cut from the original script, but I doubt it's anything from a cancelled second season.
