Enjoy your $900 sets of this from Aniplex that'll probably happen.

I could've sworn Funimation made mention of this earlier this year alongside Brotherhood. Either way I'm good with just Brotherhood so for anyone that's looking forward to getting this better snatch it up before Aniplex decides to gouge people's wallets for their sets.

It was mentioned by a forum member using the listed Hulu expiration dates. No one from Funimation actually confirmed it, that I know of, until the ANN advert earlier today.

Now let the gouging and exploitation from the worst company ever in anime begin. Shame that it's come to this but big money and callous business practices rule this industry now and the good times are kind of over for traditional fans. Somebody will come in too defend them I'm sure, but honestly I kind of wonder if they even do anything with the license. They're so about trying to gouge fans with whatever is currently hip and trendy in their and zealous fanbases eyes nowadays (they're on a big Fate/Stay Night and soon Touken Ranbu push along with trying to push their other questionable originals and artists) that FMA may be deemed too "out of date" and not "Cool Japan" enough such that there's never a new release anyway. If there was it'd just be some overpriced "import" thing with no dub since Funimation controlled the rights to the dub if I'm not mistaken and Aniplex really doesn't give a shit about that sort of stuff cause it takes time and effort rather than resulting in more money coming their way for less.

Glad I picked this series up a month ago, because it looks like Amazon is already running out of copies.

I dislike AoA's prices as much as the next person but are we going to forget that not too long ago anime was sold in singles with a few episodes each for $30-$40? From nearly every NA company? Anime fans now (of course myself) have it made when it comes to anime prices. What AoA is doing sucks especially since funi helped make FMA become as big as it is now and because the most likeky are going to sit on it forever and new fans won't ever have a chance to own the series but let's not exaggerate too much on the western anime retail industry having a downfall or what have you it was far far worse not too long ago and there wasn't even bluray.

None of the above is in defense of AoA, legally they have every right to what they ate doing bit like I said in my paragraph above its a pretty crappy thing to do given how much of its success throughout the years is because of funimation.

If the rights are anything like Baccano!'s, Aniplex will likely have the rights to use FUNimation's dub for FMA, along with Darker Than Black, however it wishes. But that's assuming the rights are set up this way.

I knew that this was bound to happen sooner or later with AOA monopolizing on all of their series that they distributed over the years, which is a real shame since Funimation did so much for the FMA series and because of this dick move by AOA fans of the series will be bitter with them for years to come. Mad

They literally don't care at all, never have and never will. Their Japanese wing barely even cares about the fans back there either anymore unless they're of the ultra blind loyalty whale type in which case they just want the rights to certain licenses and concepts to exploit them with and they are just as infamous for their exploitative business models and gouging fans there nowadays too. They are the most pure profit motive pitch black company to ever enter the anime scene that I can recall and everything has kind of been worse off for it particularly as they've gotten more aggressive with pretty much everything they do business practice wise in the 2010's.

They don't seem to care about extremely bad PR or even really making quality anime as a whole anymore either as long as they can make their profits through their whaling business model. It just sucks because they clearly have no intention of trying to grow anime's profile or the fanbase either within Japan or outside of it anymore nor giving back to the fans the way companies like Funimation historically have. Indeed there's nothing illegal about it (mostly and for now at least since there's talks in Japan of regulating specific exploitative business models and practices of the kind they love to use excessively albeit mainly applying to the music and mobile gaming industry at the moment), it's just super shitty bad consumer treatment that only hurts the anime industry and fans in the long run, particularly with the number of people that still put up with it on both sides of the Atlantic it for whatever bizarre reason and even get on other fans cases for expressing understandable distaste with it all which is even more bizarre.

It was NOT "Far far worse". 4 episodes a DVD at 20 dollars a DVD=60 dollars for a 12-13 episode show. That's what my emails from 2003-2006 are showing I paid for singles. I don't see any "30-40" but maybe that was for more rare shows you liked. 60-120 dollars for a show is no where NEAR as bad as 200-1000 for a show (Aniplex is funny like that...some shows will cost 200 for the whole thing, others will cost nearly 1000 for the full set). The only thing "Worse" about this was how much space we used on our shelves. Things were still affordable lol.

As for bluray being "Not too long ago"...10 years. We've had bluray for 10 years already...that's quite a while and it's still not the norm. Blurays would be the price we pay for DVDs now if not for the fact that so many people are too cheap to get a bluray player. If people would just let DVDs die, we'd be able to force them to drop bluray's standard prices. We did it with VHS-to-DVD why are we not doing it with DVD-to-Bluray?
My favorite argument for DVD-lovers is that they can't "Afford" bluray..when bluray players are literally 20 dollars now. What I hate most about the whole bluray situation is the fact that the companies don't make use of them well. Even at 1080p (usually upscaled anyway), they should be able to fit more episodes per disc...but they still like to milk us and waste resources.

I just don't see them thinking in that way though. If it's judged that it might lead to more sales yes maybe, if not then not a chance they'd bother with the labor costs and legal wrangling for working it in. Even then they're just so out of touch and concerned primarily with profit motive I don't see it being much of a consideration.

Wasn't there Baccano Blu-ray standard set not that crazily priced? I think I paid $60, which all things considered isn't that bad for 13th episodes plus some OVAs.

I can't image them turning around and trying to push the price point on these shows that much higher, unless it is just a bid to try and set market prices across the board.

I'm gonna have to disagree with this.

Back then most titles were between $20-30 and the popular titles had 4-5 episodes per volume. Less well known titles had 3 episodes. While buying every individual volume was more expensive than buying a complete collection it was still affordable since you only had to spend $20-$30 every few months.

Aniplex is basically charging what a complete collection is almost worth for each individual volume.

Nah, I don't see that happening anytime soon. Funimation was smart enough to "carpet bomb" the market with copies of FMA before it lost the rights. Both affordable releases and fancy collector's editions, even. I don't think AoA could make enough money off a new release to justify the effort. Not for the next several years, at least. Besides, they don't seem interested in releasing older shows anyway.
