I've liked what I saw so far. I don't see a problem with a game adaption closely following the game. That seems like the proper thing to do with an adaption. People usually complain when an anime goes into filler arcs and deviate from the manga halfway through. Is this series supposed to be one cour or two? Or rather is this just an adaption of the first game or possible the original trilogy?

While I do agree that the anime has some pacing issues, I've seen far worse anime that rush way too fast. I kinda like what we have so far, and I like the choices the anime is making thus far, such as cutting out the Bellboy's testimony.
Don't tell me this is gonna be another SMC where everyone rants about how insulting and offensively bad it is, because it's a good show in its own right. |

I've immensely enjoyed how closely its sticking to the source material. Seen a few people dissatisfied with some things like the whole 'Maya getting arrested a second after they find her name' thing but you see things like that happen all the time on shows. Like on the more light hearted murder shows such as Murder, She Wrote and what not. These series have some pretty comical moments as well.
I think there are some people taking themselves a bit too seriously as well lol. But ya, overall I'm pretty happy with the adaption. From the first 3 eps it looks like the serious parts work pretty well too. |

They skipped and changed lots of things that makes future trials even worse.
I can get over some quality of life skips, but a little explanation or a reference for the DL-6 incident would have been great. (I mean, more than a single scene) I also dislike the "normal" style. I mean, it looks any other anime, nothing special or anything. Everything looks plain and boring. I feel like they don't even care about it, since characters really looks bad most of the time, and simple mistakes are frequent. Just in the second episode, they say Mia is 28, only to be changed to 27 in the next frame. The soundtrack is boring as hell. The only good tracks are from the game. They should have done like Danganronpa, using the game's soundtrack for the anime. There's also the transition between the opening and the rest of the episode that really feels weird. |

Haven't played the games but I like what I've watched so far the art is somewhat lacking but I still like it for what it is makes me wanna play the games . People always need something to complain about .the adaptation doesn't follow source material and the original material was different and better, or the adaptation is to close to the actual source material I mean your always gonna have people complain no matter what some people like perfect adaptations like myself and some like it when they change it into something else I personally don't like it when they tamper with the source material , there's a reason why it did so well in the first place not so you could change it and invent new crap and ruin the story

Yep. This show is a mess- and it makes me want to avoid the game like the plague. Despite the fact that these types of adventure games where you wander around and solve things with the gathered items in your magic satchel are just about the only games I actually like. |

As someone who hasn't played the games, watching this has yet to convince me I've missed anything by not doing so. It's the most boring, uninspired, insipid attempt at a courtroom drama I've seen in ages. The OTT characters, reactions etc are depicted in such a banal manner that they lose any comedy value, & the cases have been kindergarten levels of logic & complexity. I get that its a kids game & I dare say if there were game mechanics to create tension & distract me from how stupid it all is (or, rather, make that stupidity more engaging), I might be able to look past that. But from the sounds of this review & others, they've basically just decided to adapt the cutscenes; & that's never a good idea.
Also, I don't think the grade schooler pretending to be a lawyer that is apparently the main character has shouted objection when it's appropriate, yet (two episodes in, mind you). I dare say he'll shout it at himself before that. edit: Also, also; I'm pretty sure they're using music from Kindaichi Case Files in this. |

Production values are Meh, but that's ok. So are the animations for the 3DS games.
The story is all that really matters, and this will deliver a faithful adaptation. And that's all it needs to be. And that's all i've wanted it to be for years of wishing for an AA Anime version to happen. I don't want or need this to turn into a Case of the week type of crap to justify being different from the games. (Which is why I despise the likes of Detective Conan.) And for the record too, there are no "cutscenes" in AA. The entire game is just text pretty much. The first game and the first case aren't a good example of how amazing it can get. If this adaptation is as faithful as it needs to be, if you don't like it by the end of the first game's story then something is wrong with you. Because it's a series that only increases in quality with each installment. |

While the second case was connected to the DL-6 insofar as Mia's investigation to it spoiler[and her being murdered to stop it,]it wasn't necessary for them to focus on it too much outside of the actual case that it's directly connected to it i.e. case 1-4.
I don't know of any anime that isn't prone to mistakes.
Would've been super lazy to do so to say nothing of the fact that the original version of the score doesn't sound very good do to the music being designed with the GBA's soundchip in mind.
It's not a full on drama it's a dramedy hence the over the top reactions and character quirks. Alongside the more serious aspects.
The original games were designed to shed a light on actual problems within the Japanese Judicial system on top of the fact it deals with people getting brutally murdered. As such the games and by extension the anime are really not intended specifically for kids.
Visual novels (which the original games are) don't have cutscenes. Which means the anime added in things that didn't exist in the original games.....such as fully spoken dialog or the characters actually physically moving around.
The Saiban games are basically a parody of actual courtroom proceedings so of course it's going to take an incredible number of liberties here and there to keep things from being too stuffy or realistic.
Yeah you should really play the games (or just YouTube it) along with researching what Shu Takumi set out to do with the games, to get a better understanding of it instead of drawing some of the conclusions your making. Which would you prefer: Japanese names or English names???
I honestly prefer the former. |

This show is, unashamedly, made for the previous fanbase who played through the games. Ace Attorney certainly doesn't need any help to sell more games, this anime is more for the fans to chew on new material rather than to attract new people to the games, or at least it's not the main idea.
I can tell, because I played the games and you have no idea how much fun I'm having with it. Lots of good easter eggs right off the bat (you can see a certain shirt in the beginning of the first episode), and added stuff such as Phoenix and Mia talking about her plants, or Phoenix going through ten or more lawyers for Maya only in one day, not because he wouldn't defend her he just wanted to find one that would make her feel safe. Edgeworth's office, his appeareance with von Karma. And now Redd White, it was thoroughly funny to hear him speaking in broken English. Not only that, the second half in which he appears looks significantly better than the first. Plus, the pacing and the adaptation of game mechanics is much better than you'd think; those convenient screens are, indeed, convenient. |

I'm with you on that; it grinds my gears when the characters say a certain name, and the subs show a completely different, Westernise name. It makes me wonder why watch the Japanese dub in the first place if there's such a disconnect, instead of waiting for the (inevitable) English dub? You can blame this on Capcom USA since do to the changes they made in localization on the original games they've gotten people programmed to all those changes. To where they had Crunchyroll whip up an alt sub track so as to not confuse those people too much despite how logistically absurd (and dumb) it is. |

I don't think I understand how a parody this broad is supposed to shed light on actual problems. What are these problems? The complete lack of chain of evidence? No discovery rules? No juries? When you can't tell the difference, it doesn't seem like it would shed any light at all. |

English names. Jokes about names being puns don't work quite as well without a more thorough understanding of Japanese; case in point, Phoenix's joke about Dick Gumshoe being an odd name for a detective (as "dick" and "gumshoe" are both slang for detectives). The version with the Japanese name doesn't have the same kind of implicit understanding unless you already know what the jokes with the names are. Though I would've liked a less Americanized version that kept the Japanese setting but had the English names. Like keeping Maya's favorite food as miso ramen; I think Western culture as a whole has a solid grasp on what ramen is--no need to replace it with a friendlier Western food like burgers. EDIT:
This article from the Escapist covers that issue pretty well, actually: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/video-games/issues/issue_253/7530-Phoenix-Wright-s-Objection. Also, I think a jury system wasn't implemented in Japan til roughly 2009. |
