Wow, could the Zoids review have been anymore unfair. I thought in review columns, the reviewer generally gave an opinion, as in their OWN opinion and based their review on that. Not what they think a little kids opinion might be of it.

The entire review was basically "This is interesting, but since little kids probably won't be entertained, I can't give it a good review". Just because Zoids Zero (The near plot-less spin-off, not an "earlier zoids") was aimed at little kids and not very good, it's not really fair to base your review of CC on those impressions. I don't think the reviewer confusing who the target audience is should merit a bad review, but maybe I'm just old fashioned....

Sorry if that sounded harsh, I just get really irked when I see baseless bashing of a series I like.

Then you aren't putting much thought into this are you? The fact is, when reviewing, it's a clear necessity to keep the targeted audience in mind. She clearly stated why it might keep younger kids entertained to an extent but also gave specific reasons why the storytellers may have been off the mark a bit.

Nothing wrong with having your own opinion, but there is always an intended demographic and those considering watching it and/or buying need to know exactly who they are getting it for.

Besides, it's not like she listed it as a perishible item... just found it too flawed to call it something you gotta buy.

I think the main point she was trying to get across was that this incarnation of Zoids was significantly different from the earlier one, with which most people are already familiar. You also have to keep in mind that Zoids is a kid's show, and to review it otherwise would not be fair. Looking at it from that perspective Zoids is actually pretty good, much better than some other kid's shows out there like Medabots *gag* or whatever the heck that spinmaster one is called.

Actually, do you know what would be even more unfair? If I reviewed a kids show and gave it a bad review because I was an adult and I wasn't the target audience. I could watch something like Dora the Explorer and give it an awful review because I'm an adult and I think the show sucks-- but that wouldn't be fair, would it? Because the show isn't aimed at me. It's aimed at kids. And could I see kids enjoying the show? Yeah.

That review was specifically aimed towards parents and/or aunts/uncles/etc that had young children in their household. Should parents buy Zoids:CC for their kids? Why, or why not?

I took the disc and said, "Hey, this is kinda neat. It has a fairly engaging story... more dialogue... this is better than that other Zoids show they had. But wait, very, very, VERY few adults are going to be buying this for themselves. This show is being sold to parents for their kids. Would kids enjoy this show? Ehh... seems a little too boring for them, and I think it'd go over their heads."

Read the review again. I *DID* give my own opinion. But then I gave my opinion as to why the *target audience* (AKA viewers 10 years younger than me, AKA people who would actually want their parents to let them collect the show, AKA KIDS) would or wouldn't like it.

I'm sorry that saying that something belongs on the "Rental Shelf" is such an insult to you. I didn't realize that anything less than Shelfworthy meant that I was "bashing it." By that logic, I should put everything as Shelfworthy from now on and give everything nothing but glowing praise because I don't want to "bash" a show that someone out there might like.

How come it's always "your review is baseless and wrong and unfair" and not "I disagree with your review"? Why are anime fans so arrogant about this? You are not RIGHT about Zoids and Bamboo isn't WRONG; it's a review, it can't be defined as right or wrong.

And "I don't know, I guess I don't like seeing shows I like bashed!" is not an excuse. Stop being such a crybaby. She didn't like it, you disagree, get over it.

Another great column, as usual.

I absolutely enjoy Chrono Crusade (both the manga and the anime) and your discription of it is perfect. You forgot to mention that the dubbing of the series is excellent, which is saying something since this is an ADV licensed title.

Another great column bamboo! I've been meaning to check out Chrno Crusade, and I loved 100 Stories so I'm glad that it got a good review.
