Hey all,
I live in Canada ( Toronto ) and was wondering what is the best place to buy manga online. I would like to be able to have the option for "free shipping" if I order a certain dollar amount, but I would imagine most sites would offer this. Any suggestions ? Right now I am just ordering from www.chapters.ca, but they don't have a large selection Thanks once again in advance - Rim' |

The only online places I know are www.amazon.com and www.sasugabooks.com. I know for amazon, most orders over $25 is usually has free shipping with the super saver shipping thing they have. As for sasugabooks they have free shipping on orders over $40 but it has to be within the continental US, so that probably won't apply to you. Sasuga does have this sticker program that they average your last 10 orders, and you get a discount for that amount. It'll help when you order in bulk or even a lot.

Well, Amazon.ca is always a good solid choice. They're reliable and offer free shipping on orders of $40 or more. That said, I wouldn't count on them for anything especially rare or old. Their prices aren't exactly great either.
Unfortunately, that is the only Canadian site I would recommend so you'd otherwise have to look at importing from the U.S. That's a little tricky due to potential taxes and fees. I've found they are rarely applied and very minor in BC but I think it may vary by province. I don't know how it works in Toronto but I vaguely recall a conversation with somebody about it being pretty bad out there in Ontario. You'd probably want to look into that further, especially before placing any particularilly large orders. On the bright side though, you will probably save a lot of money that way. (although less than you used to with the dollar down a bit.) I particularilly recommend www.rightstuf.com Their prices are extremely low and they do offer free shipping although you have to spend $150. |

Really, nothing beats Amazon for me. I live in the US, but I imagine Amazon.ca can't be much different (especially when you have Ramona Flowers delivering for ya!)
I've tried places like Right Stuff, etc. Sometimes they have good deals and all, but the shipping is nowhere near as fast as Amazon (I can order something on Monday with standard shipping and most likely I get it on Friday...and sometimes as soon as Wednesday), nor do they have as much in stock as Amazon. Series that people here usually say are hard to find you can usually find very easily on Amazon. Of course, this isn't true of every series, but a lot of the time it is. Also, a lot of manga on Amazon, with the exception of new releases, are eligible for buy 3 get 1 one free deals, which REALLY helps if you're working you're way through a lengthy series or just buying several books at once. AND sometimes they have titles in stock early...I've noticed this most with Viz, whose manga you can usually get 1 or 2 weeks before they come out. edit: Just read Ikillchicken's post. Guess amazon.ca isn't quite as reliable on the harder to find series as US amazon? |

I guess my most used store would be Amazon.com. It has a good archive, good prices, and good shipping. Another thing that I like about Amazon is that I don't really have to worry about my perches to much. I find it to be an over all good source.

The Book Depository, they have a great selection, and quite a few Out-Of-Print titles. And the most important part; SHIPPING IS FREE!
And their prices are generally cheaper than Amazon's. |

I dunno about shipping, what I often do to offset shipping costs is to buy in bulk where I'm saving so much, that shipping costs added still make the purchase worth it. If that's the case, you can go to sites like Anime Castle and whatnot to ship. In most cases, unless it isn't something like Amazon.ca, you aren't going to get free shipping to Canada. Also note, that on sites like RightStuf, you will get free shipping to Canada when purchases are over $150, but be reminded that they are shipping with UPS. UPS = bad, because they will charge you additional charges (even though you're giving a free shipping quota)... the dreaded brokerage fee. So if you do happen to find anything shipping from the states and decide to pay a little extra for those mega savings, stay with USPS (united states postal service), 'cause even though it's snail mail, I find it to be more financially sound. And ask for your tracking number.
On the side: bllanosr, if your avy is of Gaara from a particular wallpaper, then you've got the wall I made way back , credit at the bottom should say Naru_Love_Hina, if I do recall correctly ^^. That be the one I made on AW, sadly I cannot recall who the original Gaara artist was and couldn't give him direct credit |
