Snoopy is actually very popular in Japan so this shouldn't be too much of a surprise! Does anybody remember that catchy Hot Pepper commercial from a few years back?
Anyway, I really want to see this! Peanuts is the best. |

I didn't think American comic strips were that popular in Japan.

This is very interesting to hear. I take it that Sanrio, the Japanese right owner of Peanuts probably play a role in this. Madhouse will do this one, I wonder who the second studio to do this (Toei, TMS, Nippon Animation, I would go crazy if Studio Ghibli is the 2nd studio).
I can imagine Lucy with Shana's voice. If they cast her then I want Natsuko Kuwatani (Yue Ayase in Negima) to voice Marcie.
Well anything's possible. |

Sorry, but I can attest that no one in Japan can make a decent lasagna. |

They should just do Redline again, but replace all the characters with Peanut characters.

I'm pleased to see Olaf, Snoopy's other brother, in that "Peanuts in Japan" picture you used to illustrate the article.
Olaf was the best thing about the last decade of the strip. |

That's a considerable honor to be able to say that, though I don't expect it to look much different than the usual (modern) Peanuts production (Japanese studios rarely go in another direction on productions like this). At least, I hope this turns out better than the most recent special, which could barely qualify as "Charlie Brown-In-Name-Only".

Madhouse has the rights to Peanuts?
I am very surprised. Not in a bad way, but surprised. Hopefully we see some legal links soon. |

The second studio is the one that already animated the comic in America. Madhouse is the only Japanese studio. |

I would really like to see this. The old Melendez Films specials had a significant part in my childhood and I strongly associate their style with Peanuts, but seeing a very different studio animate it is enticing.
The other thing that those old specials made me strongly associate with Peanuts is Vince Guaraldi's outstanding music, but I don't imagine that we'll get an analogue to that. Peanuts with a score by Yoko Kanno would be pretty sweet.
Nifty! I like that better than those strange MetLife advertisements that had a cel-shaded Snoopy and Woodstock inexplicably navigating a boat along a treacherous jungle river. At least the Hot Pepper advertisements feature the Peanuts characters doing something that could conceivably happen within the context of the strips.
