Considering the previous statistics that you had posted about the US comic book industry as a whole, that seems to suggest that Naruto Volume 50 was outpacing domestic graphic novels. Am I interpreting these statistics incorrectly?

Having looked at France's reports the other day, that's actually kind of sad to see such a big gap.

And France has like... so many less people than the US, that's what the sad thing is.

Wow, that really is quite sad. I'm rather shocked, though it was noted that Naruto was quite popular in France in one of the series guidebooks that I have.

France does have a much more established manga industry than the US, or at least so I have heard. It still is a bit surprising to see the numbers are so different.

Seeing some of the domestic releases in there actually makes me feel better, since there are a lot of great books in there, which certainly deserve to be selling more copies than Naruto. In particular, I am ecstatic to see Maus on the list for the last two years. Also happy to see Scott Pilgrim in there and it reminds me that I've meant to read Persepolis for ages.

The American manga industry collapsed, and lost a ton of customers. The companies that survive are not doing too well.

Americans just don't like to read. There is little to no reason to make manga to target American audience. France on another handle is another story. There are many reasons to make manga for France audience.

Putting aside pure economics and sociology for a moment, I thought it was interesting to see two Big Nate volumes in the list of big sellers. After all, it seems to suggest that there is still a market for newspaper comics in today's world. I don't read newspapers, and consider most of them to be in a bad state. In fact, I think a serious case can be made that newspapers are often a waste of paper in a world where news and political features can be delivered in so many other ways. However, I still love comic strips.

Good job Naruto, #50 was also quite good. It had great fights and some emotion as well.

I'm glad to see someone congratulating it; we could do with a bit more of celebrating this news in my opinion.
