Lately I've been looking at my past Shonen Jump issues and find that I don't want to pick up 5 of them to read a good section of whatever title I want to reread at the time. I tend to just pick up a handy GN of a different series instead. And I find this utterly irrating.

I originally thought that I could save myself some money and read a couple titles I wouldn't have considered before by subscriping to SJ, but now... I begining to think that I just should be putting down the extra money to just buy the GNs instead. I'd like to reread some titles, but don't want to go through the hassle/aggravation of picking them out of each SJ.

So... I just fell into their marketing ploy, didn't I? Rolling Eyes

I think maybe you did.

I'd just stick to buying the GNs of the titles I like, and steal peeks at new titles when you see shonen jump at the store.

Well SJ is for people who want to read several manga in bits. Not for people who want to read only one manga. Are you buying it to read 1 manga or are you buying it to read all 5 manga? If you do only want to read one, than go buy the Graphic Novle instead of subscribing. Because your 2.50 spent on SJ is on 300 page worth of manga. You can always sell the SJ title back on ebay and get around 2 dollar per issue. You subsribe for 30 dollar (3 manga's worth) so it's not even that bad. And you sell it back, u can buy 2 more manga.

Well, I originally subscribed because I wanted to sample the titles and for $20, I figured I should find something decent. I did/do read all the titles. When it expired, I just renewed it, without really thinking. Now I have opinions about them. I like 3 enough to buy as GNs, then there's 2 I don't mind reading but I'm not sure I want to invest in, and 2 I could care less about.

... Hmm... well, I guess I could buy the GNs and then start visiting their site more for the other titles.

Thanks for the input. It was all jumbled & ignored in my mind, and it's become clearer once I got it out.

Well, to save your money, I have a suggestion for you. Go through all your Jumps and record the chapters of what manga somewhere and maybe a sentence to say what happens. That way when you want to find something, it'll be quick. Of course, some people hate doing mind-numbing tasks such as that (though I live for that sort of thing), but it might help. And, if you don't like all the manga in there, just buy the graphic novels.
