First off, I'd like to thank the Pittsburgh Japanese Animation Club for filling my head with such highly explosive thinking material.

Anyway, time for the questions:

1-Were the movies in sequential pattern on purpose or were they just rehashes?

2-What was life and what was art?

I may have another question, but I'm not sure. Thanks in advance.

I know Millenium Actress was one movie that I needed to watch more than once to fully comprehend.

The whole point of Millenium Actress was that, for Chiyoko, real life and her movies were inextricably entwined. She got into movies as a means to find her painter and spent decades playing out her own dreams, desires, and hunt for her painter in a succession of movies. It wasn't a coincidence that she left her movie career behind when she finally gave up the hunt for her painter.

And I believe the movies seemed to be in sequential order simply because Chiyoko was simply choosing the part of the movie that fit with the stage of her own story that she was on. I got the impression that all of her movies followed a somewhat similar story pattern.
