I have just noticed one of the warmest, tender, rich voices in anime, Junko Iwao.

Well, maybe this old news to many people, but please bear with me. What some many might find even more odd is that I really paid attention to her after watching such half-forgotten soap-opera-tricks-driven title as "Ceres, Celestial Legend", not after her many other more famous roles like in Evangelion, CC Sakura, Madoka and such. In that anime she voiced Ceres and sometimes made her voice so sincere, touching, heartfelt that even myself almost melt of her performance as actress. I am not usually get impressed that often. (Of course, this is subjective, just my own experience.)

The question is, did anyone follow her career? She had strange four year long departure from doing any work in anime from 2000 to 2004. Was she touring or did she decide to drop anime altogether but changed her mind four years later?

According to AniDB:
Quote:
On February 14, 1998 she married the composer Yamamoto Harukichi (real name: 山本 治彦, Yamamoto Haruhiko), who wrote many of her songs.
I would guess that she took time off to raise a child, though the usual sources don't say anything about it.

Thanks. I am glad that there is no drama behind it.

1. Junko Iwao is the best Japanese voice actress out of all the Japanese voice actresses.

2. Perfect Blue is the greatest animated movie ever made. I'm not even joking.

3. She divorced Yamamoto in 2007.

4. Even after her 2004 return, her anime roles have been pretty sporadic. Uhhh, she played Akane in My HiME in 2004 (and most of her current roles are just her reprising the same character in all of My HiME's sequels / spin-offs / video games / etc). She also played Ophelia in Romeo x Juliet in 2007, and she had a really minor role as the teacher in Madoka Magica last year. Today she mostly travels around with her band and performs live acoustic covers of '80s Gundam theme songs.

5. I thought Ayashi no Ceres was pretty good until everyone turned into Space Jockeys.

You like Iwao-san to? I loved KTMI, and bought her Anime On Bossa CD!

well that was kind of weird.

I will admit I haven't followed Junko Iwao too well, though I am aware that she was a major anime seiyuu of the 1990s. I mostly remember her for her voice work as Tokiko "Key" Mima from Key the Metal Idol and Tomoyo from Cardcaptor Sakura.

This is the first time I've heard of her playing Mima from Perfect Blue. Confused
