Hey everyone, I decided to make this post after I bought Yu-gi-oh! Season 3 at a local bookshop. It cost me $20.
When I got home, I checked the price on Amazon. My jaw dropped to the floor. The cheapest copy is $200. Same thing on eBay.
In fact, the price on every Yu-Gi-Oh! box is absurd. How does this happen?

It's cause those sets are all out of print, so the "anime scalpers" (as I like to call them) try to get outlandish prices for stuff.

If you think that's bad, you should see the prices for one volume of Aura Battler Dunbine, or even Black Lagoon.

It's a great deal you found (make sure it's from Funimation & not a bootleg though). Some used bookstores don't know what they are sitting on in the case of out of print DVDs.

Either that, or it's an illegal bootleg he found. Those are usually cheaper than the real thing.

Well, it's Region 1, so that's a good sign.
Seven discs, thick case, FN-05451 on spine. No pirate logos, just 4Kids and Funimation.
Should I upload pics? I have a week to return it if it's fake. Used bookstores are cool like that.

Bootleg or not, it's $20 for an out-of-print series on disk. Keep it.

You'd be foolish to trade $20 for $200.

Nah, really wasn't interested in selling it. I just thought it would be cool to own an entire Yu-gi-oh set on DVD. Didn't realize they were so pricey.

Perhaps they'll go on Blu-ray in a few years. Now that would be great.

I guess people aren't looking at amazon.com for Aura Battler Dunbine. All the prices that I saw there are mere dollars!

That's really weird that the later volumes actually cost more than the earlier ones. I saw the first few volumes for around $5 US.

Earlier (first) volumes tend to get bigger print runs as not everyone who buys the first volume will buy the rest. Hence, more potential 2nd hand copies.

Apparently certain volumes of Aura Battler Dunbine are notoriously hard to find, to the point where they are almost legendary. I believe that they are volumes eleven and twelve, but don't take that as gospel.

Edit: read this column.

I lucked out too. I've been looking for Ah! My Goddess, Season 2: Flights of Fancy, Vol. 5 and the cheapest I've seen was a used copy on Amazon for $35. I stumbled on a new copy at a FYE today for $7.49! Wasn't even looking for it Shocked. Sometimes you'll never know what you'll find, (now if I can find the last 5 volumes of Cardcaptor Sakura that cheap....).

You can buy the whole season of Ah My Goddess Flights of Fancy for under $30 since it's a SAVE edition now.

Meh, those S.A.V.E. sets aren't nearly as nice as the originals. I love the artboxes for the Goddess series, and they're not that expensive when you find them used or at TRSI, which are cheap also, (other then that Vol. 5 disc). To sum it up, I'm one for getting the originals over the cheaper sets, it's a collector thing Wink .
