Hopefully this won't be the complete disaster that the third Tenchi OVA was. I suppose it has the luxury of not having any particular expectations for it, though.

I have an idea! Let's come up with a potentially interesting, potentially not, anime, and stick "Tenchi" in the advertising so it'll sell well!

How about a female protagonist instead of another witless Tench clone? GXP was enough, I can't believe there's yet a third character exactly like him. What is wrong with this man? O__O I wasn't that fond of the original character the first time. He was just mainly a plot-device to fill the show with more interesting girls. Honestly, I hope there are more Pretty Sammy spin-offs so I can have something as an alternative with main characters I can stand.

Aside from the fact that there's theoretically been 10 years to develop the story.
Obviously, this family has had nothing better to do in the past 700 or so years than multiply. Maybe if I can get myself married into the family, I'll be off on some crazy adventure, too.

Please tell me I'm not the only one who thought "El-Hazard/Tenchi x-over" when they saw this.

And surround her with hot guys? Now THAT I'd very much like to see.
Or better yet, still surround her with hot girls.

Kind of seems that way... double the harem, double the fun?

I hate being the negative guy in the thread, but I never understood why people liked this show.
I watched the entire OVA series just to make sure I gave it a fair chance. It made absolutely no sense and had each episode added more characters than every Russian novel ever written put together.
So many other things that should be animated that aren't, like that final Rurouni Kenshin arc.

oh lord. You needed a PHD just to keep track of all the subplots and family lines from this cannon to begin with.
I'm guessing this will be the son of Tenchi's father and Reina after they got married in the last OAV. I would have figured they'd use Taro first but guess not.

I agree with you, despite the fact I did enjoy the first series and a couple of the Ova's. The reason for popularity is probably because of the early harem concept. Obviously, Tenchi Muyo has always had a large cast of characters, some sterotypical, some not.
In some aspects, Tenchi Muyo was like Ranma 1/2, except for transformation of characters and school references. Ranma 1/2 really had no plot, but was still enjoyable to watch. Factualily speaking, I am not really sure why Tenchi is popular. Though I can only guess that the harem aspect and the female cast most likely have something to do with that.
I too would have enjoyed seeing the final arc of Rurouni Kenshin, as I would with several other shows. But popularity and profit are what usually drive these shows to have a another season, another series or so forth.

The harem aspect is annoying if not bordering on sexist. Can't they just have a show with hot girls that don't all want to shag the same witless nerd?
