Well if they offered alternatives instead of treating their fans like criminals, maybe this stuff wouldn't be happening.

The consumer wants a digital version. The publishers need to offer them one.
If it's for private use, then I don't see it as a problem. The shops can't forsee who uploads the scanned copy and who doesn't. Not the shop's problem imo.

They could agree to compromise. Like say, each scanned page would have the owner's and the shop's coded client information watermark, so it can be traced to who and where. Of course, stuff happens like digital files can be stolen or hacked, but if there's a pattern of abuse, then at least there's a paper (pardon the pun) trail to investigate. Each side compromises some.

Unlike publishers here, at least the authors are doing it themselves. If that's what the author wishes hopefully those shop respect their requests.
Everyone reads these sites, even I but in the end if you're reading these type of sites and never pay a single penny back into the industry, you're not a fan in the first place.

Manga readers ask Creators for new and better formats, Creators tell them to go flip off.

That's not a compromise. Those people already paid for it. If they had a scanner at home and made their own scanned copies, those owners would have the same product as going into a commercial enterprise and doing it. They shouldn't have to put their names on their copies to satisfy the mangaka.
The mangaka need to get with the times.

Or threaten injury via disease. And unintentionally kill an innocent bystander.
