New strip, but no strip? Uploading went wrong?

Edit: There it is! Silly action guy, real action heroes only need their fingers to make body parts explode! Since he uses a whole fist, he must be a fake!

Am I the only one not seeing the strip? Maybe it's a problem with NoScript, but it's never happened before.

Funny though, I was just thinking it had been a while since I'd seen ANNina Smile

Pretty sure Nana needs a bat to smash watermelons.
And be at the beach, wearing a bikini.

I love how Nina's eyebrows leave her face completely in the fifth panel.

I wonder if the manly stare so exploited by Dragonball's time-filling will feature at some point...

No, the key is to ATATATATATATA, then wait three seconds and your opponent will explode on their own.

北斗百裂拳 Anime hyper

It's been a while since I last saw a head exploding in a Japanese animation. I recall the Anime World Order podcast making fun of a scene in Angel Cop. There is the beginning of the Ghost in the Shell movie and there is the Kill Bill segment (The Origin of O-Ren). Don't remember any other. Maybe it was more popular in the 80's and beginning of the 90's due to the popularity of Hokuto no Ken.

Nina shouldn't feel bad. Of the examples above, only Kenshiro did it with his bare hands.

The most recent one I remember is Baldr Force EXE. Heads explode several times throughout.

Anyway, great strip, as usual. Very Happy

Man, I freaking wish that "exploding heads" was Action Anime Fact # 1, but in this day and age, I'm about 100% certain that it's actually "fangirl baiting by way of character designs plus yaoi subtext." Best exhibited by "whiny loser protagonists," as noted in the Fall 2008 preview of Raoh Gaiden: Ten no Haoh which lamented the lack of said protagonist type. If you ask ME, the lack of said protagonist type is cause for celebration!

I concur. The relative death of the OAV market combined with television standards and practices along with shifting fandom demographics [read: the moe/fujoshi shadow alliance] have largely made the exploding head a relic of a bygone era. You don't really see it that often in new anime unless said anime is a remake of an older anime which had exploding heads in it. How many head explosions should one expect in the average episode of One Piece, Bleach, Naruto: Shippuden, or Soul Eater? Those are the current torchbearers for the "action anime" moniker, yet I'm pretty certain the answer is about zero. Unfortunately.
