Rossum said that she "was a big fan of the anime and knew [Bulma] as the iconic blue, bobbed character and wanted to stay true to that — but we also wanted to make it realistic."

If you were really a fan, then you wouldn't complain about it not being more "realistic". Rolling Eyes

She also hinted that James Marsters (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Smallville) will not only play Lord Piccolo in the film, but also "an incredible monster" that is "an 8-foot man […] based on something else from the… You know, I can't really say anything else."

Don't tell me it's gonna be that giant monkey...

“it’s really so much more than that — from the comic to [the cartoon] to the whole franchise and brand, so many people feel such a closeness to these characters.”

That's not what someone who actually saw the show would say about it. That's what someone at the studio would say; and they already tried that approach with Speed Racer and failed!

DRAGON BALL THE MOVIE FROM FOX WILL SUCK, make no mistake about it. They have all these actresses and actors and people that they are planting everywhere saying good things about this movie, but in truth, it is a RAPING of the story. Making Goku go to school is one of my main problems because Goku NEVER WENT TO SCHOOL! Fox, or how I like to call them "Fux it up", should've just called this movie, "High School The EMO" because that's what it looks like... Chow Yun Fat... WTF... did you know that Master Roshi was bald, wore big sunglasses and had a beard? NO YOU DIDN'T! YOU DIDN'T EVEN READ THE MANGA! Congrats on the whole crew on this horrible mistake of a "Movie" and here's to hoping that the only movies you'll ever be in, from now on, are movie from the great UWE BOLL! Losers. Note to the ones in charge of the other anime crap-remakes, I'm looking at you, Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Cowboy Bebop, EVA... think long and hard before you attempt to make these movies. Stray too far, we will not like it, and your career will be gone and forgotten. Better yet, let's address Hollywood... here's a suggestion, "STOP MAKING REMAKES AND REINVISIONINGS OF ALREADY ESTABLISHED PROPERTIES AND CREATE SOMETHING ORIGINAL!" It doesn't matter if the general audience doesn't understand it! Have you seen Idiocracy? Pretty soon our movies will literally be "Ass", just like in Idiocracy! No buyers buying merch? SO WHAT?! You, as the studios, have an obligation to make good movies that will create a market. Stores like Walmart and Target got their power because HOLLYWOOD HAS BECOME WEAK! BOYCOTT DRAGON BALL THE MOVIE SO THAT THIS NEVER HAPPENS AGAIN!

Hey, at least she's trying to be enthusiastic about the whole thing.

Sounds to me like they've made the decision to combine the characters of Piccolo and Garlic Jr into one to strengthen the bad guy character element.

Come on, Speed Racer was an extremely fun movie, and you know it.

If they include the Capsule Corp"Hoi Poi" capsules in the movie, I'll be in the theater. I want to see Bulma throw one and a little house pop out of smoke. I doubt they'd have the insight to include that, though, since they didn't even bother to put Krillin in.

fighter: She's enthusiastic, because even if it sucks and bombs, she's getting paid more than she's really worth. Rolling Eyes

penguin: It's fun if you like gaudy color schemes and endless dialogue.

lmao, for some reason I just found that funny.

anyways, im just not too happy with the whole 'DBZ movie' thing. but mainly its the people playing the characters..... Emmy Rossum just doesn't seem 'Bulma' like to me. I was happy at first about James Marsters playing Piccolo, but after seing those pictures Crying or Very sad . anyways, hopefully it'll atleast turn out 'decent' (and better than speed racer did)

i'm sorry but it wasn't. i wanted so bad to love this movie, but it bored the living hell out of me. not only was the movie barely about Speed Racer at all, but the pacing was terrible. granted the racing scenes were awesome, but there's like 4 in the entire 2 hour movie.

I loved it.
Didn't love Dark Knight, though.

Goku went to school. (sort of)
Wouldn't one call a private tutor schooling? Master Roshi taught more than just fighting. He even had a fellow student (Krillin)

Gotta love that they want to be realistic with a series that was anything but. No blue hair, Goku's hair, while spikey, is not anything that somebody with plenty of hair gel could pull off. And let's see, oh yeah, Piccolo isn't green! Rolling Eyes

And...here it goes!!!!

*sigh.* oh well, I bought Speed Racer anyway. You can disagree with liking it, but there isn't really a right or wrong answer, so arguing LOUDLY about how much it sucks isn't going to make you better, just retarded.

Since this thread is very repetitive, I'm probably going to leave this as is...Gatsu got the ball rolling, and everyone will be arguing quite loudly, it seems.

But just to go on topic again... I like Bulma's look.

Greed, your post made me laugh, it kind of throws irony in the picture, I thought realism was a bit of a good thing, because DBZ isn't.

x.x But too late at night for me to discuss...toodles.

I dunno which is worse, the fact that this movie will suck, or the fact that there's people here who think they need to inform people that it will suck. If a baseball bat is aimed at my face, I don't need to be told it will hurt if it I let it hit me.

Anyone who claims that Dragonball doesn't need to be adapted with realism taken into account hasn't seen enough of the nonsense that results when someone tries to make a live-action cartoon.

The fact that DB could be very unrealistic is the whole reason changes need to be made. If you don't like the thought of that, go post about something else, we get it already (to the guy who wrote half his post in ALL CAPS about how the movie will SUCK: I didn't read anything you wrote, that's how annoying and pointless your post was to me).

To me, the only two points they need to hit with this movie are (a) not being campy, and (b) preserving the characters; not superficial things like hair color; character.

And if Emmy says she was a big fan, I see no reason to doubt that; I don't see why she would lie about it. See how many of the other actors say they're fans; my guess is, none. They just happened to hire one (or her enthusiasm as a fan for the role got her hired). Anyway, her being a fan does not require her to hold to some childish "don't adapt it, just film the animé shot for shot" mentality. Fans of anything sometimes want different things for the property (and see different thing in it) than other fans of that property.

Yueh: I was mixed on TDK, but definitely hated Speed Racer. It's like they decided to use the worst [And by worst, I mean "slowest and most pointless".] elements of "Wings Of Honneamise" to make the film, when they should've opted for the best elements of "The Fast and the Furious". As for school, well Goku was briefly depicted as a teen in the series, but I don't think they dwelled on that much in the story. If they really want that angle, why not just start with Gohan, and make the story more basic? [Chatwin looks more like a Gohan, anyway!]

Tomibiki: We're not doing it for your sake, but for the people who willingly buy those crappy transfers of the show from FUNimation.
Wink

Yes, those real life dogs in those Garfield and Underdog movies were awesome. Rolling Eyes

Why? Did X-Men and Spider-Man suddenly come off realistic?

It looks like they've failed there, too.

She doesn't have to lie about it. She can just exaggerate it.

Well, I'm willing to bet that CYF is a fan, since he did POTC, and most likely got DB in HK, and thus isn't averse to genre flicks. Marsters might be aware of the genre, since his buddy Whedon made him rip off Sailor Moon and Devil Hunter Yohko for "inspiration" for Buffy. The vapid Asian actresses[TM?] were probably too busy cheerleading, cheating on tests, and/or ditching school to watch anything in the afternoon. Randall Duk Kim would have to have been exposed to DB, since the Wachowskis used it for the Matrix sequel(s). Christopher Sabat[Just found out he's Shenron @ IMDB.] has never heard of DB, but he's good at making people think otherwise. [That last one was just a joke for people who hate FUNi dubs.] Everyone else is just probably glad to get the work.
