Hi all I'm new here, and this will be my first post.
I am wondering what is the oldest show still being made today. I don't wanna hear about any remakes of old anime (ie. the remake of Astro Boy, that was or is being aired on the WB and/or Cartoon Network. If this qusetion is allready a topic, please tell me where i can read it. If its less than 2 years, then just say that there is no long running show still being made today. I'm asking about a single show, not a series, that means no change of title and other such related detales. Thanks to all who reply. |

Ah, the Scooby Doo of anime. I'll take a stab at it....
I think it's Doraemon: anime#1317 If that doesn't fit your bill (not sure if the other episodes of Doraemon were remakes), then maybe Detective Conan (with more than 349 episodes) will. |

Hm... the Gundam series?? I haven't watched them in so long, so I don't know if new seasons are still being produced right now. Same goes for Dragon Ball too.

What about that anime with that blue-cat thing? Ya know it is like a ball shaped cat and stuff. It is blue with a red nose. I know that it has been around for a long time! Welcome to the forum DaNaRkI!

I think Sazae-san has more half-hours than even Doraemon.

Yes, that would be Doraemon. It was already mentioned. |

The longest a single Gundam series has ever run, to my memory, is fifty-one episodes (Victory Gundam...SEED also comes in at fifty-one, if you count the 5-minute epilogue OVA as an "episode"). The longest Dragon Ball series, DBZ, only ran for 291 episodes (DB + DBZ + DBGT is only about 508). I really believe it's the 1979 Doraemon series. About 2000 episodes and still running to this day.
It's only been around as long as Mobile Suit Gundam*. Don't be so discriminatory based on an anime's age (that's typically considered shallow). *There was a Doraemon series that aired in 1973, but it only lasted about twenty-seven episodes. The one being referred to here is the longer-running 1979 sequel. |

I grew up watching Doraemon and other old stuff. Of course I was still suckling and crawling around in my Pampers and I didn't know what anime was until much later.
We still have Doraemon on reruns, but dubbed in weird-sounding English. I didn't know it was such a long-running series. |

for most tv eps Doromon but I think for most movies its got to be Lupin since Japan pretty much cranks out a new lupin OAV/Movie about every year or so.

my god! tv shows don't even last that long. how do you drag a show for 2000 episodes? does it have a plot? or is there just a bunch of different incarnations.

Nope. Doraemon soundly trumps Lupin III in the amount of movies produced. Check the Encyclopedia.
Doraemon 1979 is one single, ongoing series. |

I also suspect it is Sazae-san.

I think it's Sazae-san, too. In fact, I think Sazae-san is the longest running cartoon ever.
