Did they lower subscription fees? I wonder what caused the 50%+ spike a year, as there hasn't really been a huge show in that time frame...

There are a pair of stray cats outside, and your check is in the male. When I go to anthrocon, I will dress as Chrysotile. |

I remember when Crunchyroll first started there were a LOT of complaints about illegal uploads of fansubbed anime on that service. But Crunchyroll decided to "go legit," and as a result a lot of anime now seen in Japan are now available in the USA in legal subtitled form--often as simulcasts!

I remember those days, too; vividly. The only thing I could argue for, in terms of the benefits/ethics of the old Crunchyroll site, was the fact that it had a plethora of old-school, "Buried Treasure" OVA's and movies that were never licensed, and can only be seen in English through fansubs.
In any case, this is great news for the industry. I've got my annual subscription. See, guys, Justin Sevakis was right when he wrote this after all. |

Well, then the next steps should be:
1) Improving video quality 2) Adding Blu-Ray versions (and yes, with 1080p streams, too); if there's nudity - restrict access to 18+ somehow, but still offer them 3) Improving subtitles quality: hiring some of the good active fansubbers out there with their teams to make styled subs and karaoke 4) Allowing purchasing or something like that of a digital copy of an episode for download 5) And, of course, simulcasting, if possible, all the actual shows If they do that, then they'll be really worth subscribing to. |

And when they meet all of these demands you'll have another list of 5 reasons why you won't give them money. |

Nope, Zac, I just stated the main points in which they are outdone by fansubbers. I'm actually ready to subscribe even now (no one should complain if I subscribe and then still use fansubs, right?), but I would be glad to know if their plans for improvement include these quite important things.

However I feel people forget that asking more would eventually mean paying more for the service provided. Are you willing to pay more? |

zaeris, I don't really mind. As long as it stays reasonable (for example, two times higher price would be ok, but five times higher is quite over the top). And they could make different offers, for example, people who don't want to access Blu-Rays can pay less and so on. There are ways to do it.

Well, if the fansubbers work for free like they've always been, then that's one less thing to worry about. There's gotta be some out there willing to work for free, just for credits and ego. |

Used to be a subscriber, but I got rid of it once they forgot the meaning of simulcast. Having more than half of a season lineup a week late isn't really acceptable when they used to air it all within hours.
