That is a mighty fine package!!!
I just can't justify spending nearly $300 for a box set of DVD's that I cannot play unless I fork over an additional $100 for an all region DVD player. It's sad.... especially when I JUST GOT A DVD PLAYER YESTERDAY AS A GIFT.....damnit! |

this is a nice package, it seems odd though that it is a r3 being produced in china- wonder if the market will eventually justify a r1 miyazaki boxset

So I guess the lesson learned is that if you bootleg Ghibli movies enough times, Disney will actually release them in your country faster?

alot of cheap dvd players are region selectable via either a remote code or a bios flash I suggesta a quick google search of your model. |

R3 is Hong Kong and the rest of mainland Asia
China mainland is...R5? None of their stuff is coded anyway, what little there is. Even if there is an R1 set, all of the Japan/Asia versions have matching covers that look snazzy on a shelf. The US discs lack the synergy |

Just looked it up, Mainland China (everything but Hong Kong) is Region 6
The Studio Ghibli DVDs come out about 6-8 weeks after the Japanese release in region 3 |

In the UK, region free DVD players (that can handle DivX and Xvid also) are the cheapest DVD players available, about $60US and getting cheaper and better all the time.
I suppose in the US there is no real need to have region free DVD players. Or perhaps the companies prefer there arent any, which is a shame as you cant buy lots of dvds that will never go to American not just animes but excellent French films or Korean films etc. I'm sure in the US DVD Recordable players are cheaper, cheapest one in the UK is about $275 though that's a lot better than costing thousands. The price is still dropping though. I would very much like to own this boxset, I might get it one day if I have enough money dont know why there's one Ghibli missing though, now it's not a complete set. |

If you mean On Your Mark, it doesn't belong to Studio Ghibli. It was a work-for-hire commission by Chage & Aska. Disney/IVL does not own the rights to it. Previously for the LD "Ghibli ga ippai" (Ghibli's best) collection they sublicensed the title. Grave of the Fireflies is likewise not part of the Disney/Tokuma deal, and is owned by Warner Bros. in Japan
