Only two? I thought they'd release two dozens, well, in a period of ten years or so.

This is the biggest thing Gainax has had going for them since Eva. Expect them to whore it out.
I, for one, welcome our rehashing overlords. |

so is the movie suppose to be like a diffrent retelling of the story like the Shakugan no Shana movie?

I've never seen Shakugan no Shana, but the first GL movie is going to pretty much squish the entire first and second arcs of the show into one film. So, in a way... yes, it's a retelling. ;; They are keeping the same theme/plot from the show, but telling it in a way that will fit in a hour or two (however long they make it).
I don't think it will be too different, though... (ala the Escaflowne film.) CT |

Well played Gainax, well played. If, by some miracle, I have the opportunity, I will whore my wallet out for both movies multiple times in theaters.

Gainax announced there would be a single gurren lagaan movie previously. A sort of re-telling of the story. Our guesses now indicate that they will split the re-telling of the story over two movies instead of crunching it all into one. That's just a theory though. In any case, there are now two confirmed movies for gurren lagaan, instead of the previous one. |

Can't wait! I love me some Gurren-Lagann! Even if it is a rehash, it'll still be a fun time full of manly spirit!

There's always this problem with recap-movies that character development and seemingly unimportant aspects of the story get lost. It was the case with the RahXephon movie, it was the case with the new Evangelion movie. Reducing a story to just some cool scences cheapens the whole franchise a bit for me.
I would really prefer some alternative Gurren Lagann instead of a compilation but that's how the industry works so what can you do. Being a big fan of Gurren Lagann I will watch those two movies but I doubt that they will have the same impact on me like the series did. |

i personally really liked seeing eva in a 'theatrical' presentation via the new movie(s). and i think that the gurren lagann films could be simply amazing if they ramp up its existing awesome soundtrack to theatrical levels.
