I'm wondering if anyone else has encountered this glitch before:
I was recently re-watching Berserk and noticed that there were places in the R1 Media Blasters DVDs where the video would skip or playback would stop entirely. It occurred on discs 1,3,5, and 6, usually right around where the disc layer jump occurs (~1 hour in). I don't recall running into these issues several years back when I watched the DVDs in the same player.
After replicating the same error in 3 different dvd players and a computer, I thought this might be just an isolated set of bad discs, so I ordered a replacement copy of disc 1 just to check. To my irritation, when I popped the replacement in my dvd player, the exact same error at the exact same place!!
Could some fellow Berserk owners check and see if they run into the same issue? The first time it happened was right about 63 minutes in on vol 1, right after Guts is escaping some soldiers. I hope it's only my discs, I'd hate to think other DVDs are rotting away on shelves somewhere! If it's widespread, maybe Media Blasters will find it in their hearts to issue replacements...

Since I just recently got this as a brick and haven't seen it again since I have bought it, I was hoping this didn't affect my disks as well. I tried it in my main player and found it would not play any disks any more, so I clearly need to hurry up and buy a new main player...
I tried another player afterwards and popped in disks 1, 3 and 5 and tried them all about the 1:01 - 1:06 mark and mine all played fine in the player I tried. I think you should try and get replacements. I hope others who own this will answer your question as well, but I have no issues.
Other than I need to go buy a new DVD player...

Thanks for checking, I'm glad to hear yours are okay. Anyone who bought the series a few years ago checked theirs out yet?

I finally got mine to play in my now on it's last leg main player, and started watching the series since I loved this show anyway, and it only played to 103:03 of disk 1 and then bounced back to 58 minutes (and something) so on one player I had this issue, and on another I didn't. Hopefully I can replace my main dvd player soon with a good one and I'll see if it has this issue again.

I forgot to mention, the players I've tried include a PS2, PS3, an OPPO upconverting DVD player, an older Panasonic barebones (the one the disc used to play fine in, but now doesn't), plus my computer and an external DVD drive. All of them replicate the exact same problem. Both discs seem to be pristine (no scratches or dirt on them).
The company I ordered the replacement from is sending me a new disc, no questions asked. I'll post if that one has the same issue.
It's actually kind of amazing, I have tons of anime discs, and I've only run into this kind of problem once before, namely with a copy of Princess Mononoke, the video was all corrupted and choppy. I promptly got an exchange on that one!

Got the replacement of volume 1 in the mail today. It plays fine. The 3 discs seem to be identical, though the quality of the artwork printed on the front side of the dvds that didn't work is less crisp than on the new copy. The fine text on the back of the disc is also somewhat larger, suggesting this one is from a different set of dvds. I wonder if I just had a set of bad discs from an older printing?

My set of singles never had problems, and I have the most beat-up piece of junk DVD player ever, but I'm glad you've gotten yours solved!
Now if only I could fix that issue with all my "Anime Legends" Bandai sets. They're all abominable on my beat-up DVD player, so I have to use the wonderful PC.
