As for the rest, I'd like to get my hands on New Engineering, definetely getting Town of Evening... next time at Borders, yet to pick up MW, and I may someday start Monster... |

How could Yotsuba&! end up in the Kids category? ^^'
It's targeted at late teens and adults. Just because it's about the life of a child doens't mean it's made for them. It's published in Dengeki Daioh and just when you look at the list of titles, it's clear that it's not a children's magazine. I'm sure kids can enjoy Yotsuba&! but they can enjoy many other works not made for kids. But then again, also nominated in the same category is Star Wars: Clone Wars which seems a bit off, too. |

Interesting... Yotsuba in the Kids category. Although I love Yotsuba&, I think those kids who look at this list thinking they'll get their action heroes will be quite dissapointed. Generally, I assume that an adult would enjoy Yotsuba& much more than a kid.

Eh? They both got nominated - MW for "Best U.S. Edition of International Material—Japan category" and Apollo's Song for "Best Archival Collection/Project—Comic Books". --- I'm just happy to see The Ice Wanderer nominated. It's a truly great manga in desperate need of some attention... |

Based on Tezuka's reputation I'm thinking the judges wanted to honor him as much as possible, as they have done for the past three or so years (except for his greatest work of course  ). To be honest neither of those books should have been nominated considering there were better titles that got snubbed, but .
Usually I ignore the Eisners but this year is pretty awesome, for both manga and American/Euro comics. It's especially nice to see New Engineering, The Ice Wanderer and Town of the Evening Calm, Country of the Cherry Blossoms up for multiple awards since they were such obscure titles. If you haven't read Town... drop what your doing and order it online; it's a title that every self-respecting manga fan needs to own. And while I doubt it will win I love how Tekkonkinkreet is finally getting mainstream attention after years of obscurity. It great that Alvin Lu and all the guys at Viz who pushed for the new format are finally seeing the fruits of their labor. As for omissions, Drifting Classroom is big and could have easily taken the place of Monster IMO. But other than that and maybe Tanpenshu everything looks to be in order, which is pretty amazing. |

Holy crap. That's one of the best line ups in years. I can't pick one. I read and love them all. Meanwhile, "Atomic Robo, by Brian Clevinger and Scott Wegender (Red 5 Comics)". A web comic artist starts a comic book and gets nominated for an Eisner. Plus "Perry Bible Fellowship: The Trial of Colonel Sweeto and Other Stories, by Nicholas Gurewitch (Dark Horse)" got a nomination. Never mind Best Digital Comic as a category. Wow. Sign of the times, the coming of age of a medium? Also, I'm torn between these also.

It would help if Fanfare/Ponent Mon could actually distribute it. I was lucky by finding a copy on eBay. I would love to actually support them, but if I cannot [expletive] find it anywhere except through third parties... Great list overall. Other than MW, I would be happy with any of the manga winning the award. Pretty cool that New Engineering and Town of Evening Calm, Country of Cherry Blossoms have a shot at winning multiple awards. I'm not getting the complaints about the nomination for Yotsuba&!, though. Sure, it's an all-ages manga, but how many manga in English can children actually read, never mind stuff that's actually good (or in this case, excellent)? |

Pretty good nominations this time.
While I like MW, I also don't think it deserves the award. I'm glad New Engineering is getting some attention. While "Book" wasn't my favorite story in it (I liked "Model House" the most), it's cool that it was nominated in multiple categories. I was really impressed with PictureBox's treatment. Now I can't wait for Monster Men Bureiko Lullaby. I want to read The Ice Wanderer, but I can't find a copy. I guess I'll have to resort to eBay as well. If not, I can always take advantage of the French's undying love for Taniguchi and get it in French. |

Surely that's the North American distributor's fault (Diamond?) rather than Fanfare's. It's readily available in the UK - amazon.co.uk has it and so does The Book Depository which has free shipping (including overseas to the US and Canada). |

It's been a category since at least last year, when I'm pretty sure American Elf won it. I like the nominees that I've read but not nominating Achewood (the best current comic strip period, digital or otherwise) is complete bullsh!t.
I wouldn't be surprised if MW managed to pull it off actually since half of those nominees were read by hardly anyone. But in all likelihood Monster wins it (which kind of sucks since there are much more deserving nominees in that category). And I wouldn't count on Apollo's Song beating Frank Miller's big breakthrough (or Stan Lee now that I think about it). Hopefully justice is served and I Shall Destroy all the Civilized Planets! gets the win. |
