Oddly enough I stopped caring about cars when I was 12.
That said I haven't wanted a particular car this badly since I was 12 *__*
Congrats to them for winning an award for the ad!

She's got lifeless eyes. Like a doll's eyes. When she comes at ya, doesn't seem to be living...

Well they obviously never read the feedback from those 1 million hits. This highlights just how relevant this award is. The only one's who care are Toyota's PR guru's and the graphics people what rendered that abomination, oh, and their wives and mothers. Crypton got their concert sponsored so they grinned and bared it.

Which is even more ironic given the same demographic that would be "hip" to Anime would equate someone completely different with the Corolla....namely a RWD econobox from the 80s friven by a certain tofu-flinging prodigy!!

What doesn't win awards nowadays?
If you show some guy pooping in a poop deck on TV for a toilet paper ad it's likely to win an award too.

As a person who has several family members and friends who have Toyota's, most of them think this pretty cool and a means to attract a new generation of Toyota fans.
Unfortunately, most people (who don't watch anime/even know what is is) aren't as open minded and would probably write this off as "kid" stuff or something around those lines. A occurrence that happens often with people who don't really understand anime.

I found it a bit amusing that the Toyota guy used the word "hip." I haven't heard that word used in a non-joking way in a long time.
But yeah, I do wonder why Toyota thinks this would break through the Animation Age Ghetto to sell cars. Heck, I wonder why Toyota thinks it can sell to the western otaku crowd at all. A huge part of western anime fans are too young to drive, and most who can drive and are into J-pop enough to be familiar with Miku are too poor to afford a new car.
Then again, there are a lot of car commercials out there to appeal to the kid inside. There were a few I saw between this and last year that had cartoon characters (both original and cameo-ed from elsewhere), and they seem to work. That, and Miku looks very, VERY Japanese and may sell to the adult Sanrio crowd.

I saw the commercial a few times on STBN though I dunno if that counts for much.
