All fans seem to revel in the prospect of complaining about "bad" endings. There is very little mention of what a "good" ending is.
What do you think the percentage of "good" and "bad" endings are?
The single worst?
The single Best?

In all honesty, I'm not that big on anime endings... I like homeostasis, everything staying the same as it was before. In that regards, I think the ending to the first season of Sailor Moon is the best ending I've ever seen, since the only real change from the beginning of the series was the lack of Queen Beryl.

Slayers Next, More or less, Damn the universes, you don't hurt Gourry. Only because of L-Sama did we not go poof. Gourry even kisses her, before Lina hits back at him.
And Tenchi GXP has a fun one too, one that hints at a possible OVA ending. Polygamy is legal on Jurai. Thus, they ALL get married. Even the naked pirates.

I like the open ending. Leave it open for interpretation and arguement among any viewer. I also love unhappy endings. In my opinion NGE had my favorite ending. It included an open end and what can be translated as an unhappy ending (or happy depending on your theory). I also love the Cowboy Bebop ending, kill the main character, classic. These two go down as my favorite endings without any question.
Worst endings are pointless and solve nothing in terms of the plot. I hate feeling unsatisfied and wanting more at the end of a series. My idea for the worst ending would have to be Samurai Deeper Kyo. Pointless and stupid. Why ruin a good series with such a lame ending? Why?

It's hard to clearly define exactly what a good ending is, as it changes depending on the type of anime, the nature of the story, the characters, etc. Some anime benefit from a happy ending, some from a tragic ending, some from a twist ending, some open-ended, some leaving deliberate room for sequels, etc.
Personally, I think the majority of anime end at least good enough to satisfy most fans. Those that end poorly are typically more widely known because either the exact quality of said ending is under dispute by starkly contrasting opinions (Evangelion), or because fans always ask about why they ended so bad & if a sequel's coming (Pilot Candidate), or because people just enjoy complaining when asked (me & Hellsing ).
As for my own opinions as to best & worst endings...well I already posted my opinion for worst endings in another thread. And I'm afraid I'll have to take a rain check on listing my favourites, because I'm unfortunately drawing a blank at this point.

Well the reason I originally posted worst ending ever was because YES I was more curious to see what people considered "Worst" and I love the differences in opinion. It helps that I've seen so much so I know what most of them were talking about. I just sat back and laughed at it all really.
Yes, I have a few favorite endings. However I do feel that there may be more bad apples than good ones (for endings) but thats just my opinion.
I have well just name about as many endings in my mind I can think of though there may be more.
1.Record of loddoss.
2. Full Metal Panic S1
3. Love Hina
4. Orange Road
5. Video Girl AI
6. Maisson Ikkoku
7. Outlaw Star
8. Trigun
9. Gatekeepers
10. Pretear

EMY23-23, it helps if before you put up spoiler tags you say what it is that you're spoiling. That way, I know whether I want to read it or not.
In an ending, I usually like a well-completed story. However, that doesn't mean that everything is solved or explained. It just needs to come to some sort of conlclusion. As in Trigun At the end, basically nothing is solved. Knives is still bent on destorying humanity ( you don't just give up on a century-long quest overnight!). Vash somehow has to deal with him. But, it is a good ending because it brings to a conclusion Vash's mental confusion. He has a clear view of what he's going to do and is confident in the path he has chosen. That's what I mean by a well-completed story.
Other anime with good endings are:
Escaflowne (my opinion)
Cowboy Bebop
Lain
Kikkaider (made the show worthwhile)
Scryed

I thought Cowboy Bebop had a perfect ending. It had an appropriate surreality to chilling edge to it. I still shiver a little whenever I hear Spike utter, "bang," in that ghostly tone.
I thought Saber Marionette J to X had a surprisingly touching finale. The series was seldom more than mediocre, but the ending seemed to have real feeling and humanity.
Now and Then, Here and There had a perfectly melancholy end. It was overwhelming tragedy and joy, it just was. Nothing of what the series had said was betrayed, and every character found a fate that was satisfying, regardless of the emotions stirred by it.

I thought the end of the Kikaider TV series was great, but the Kikaider 01 OVA (where Dr. Gill came back, Bijinder appeared, and Jiro suddenly had 2,001 separate brothers popping up from everywhere) was a complete waste of time, aside from the very, very end (Jiro's conscience becoming "complete," Gill dying for good, etc.).
