Weird, I would have expected Evangelion volume 11 to be here, considering it seems to have sold well if Amazon.co.jp's year end bestseller list is to be believed.

Also weird is the absence of Detective Conan!

Seems a bit different from what I'd expect.

Or all those series close enough in popularity that One Piece volume 47 wouldn't sell more than Gintama volume 17?

Awsome how one piece is number 1 also thought i would see detective conan since it's always a number 1 seller most of the time when a new volume comes out.

Looking at the top 10, Shonen Jump titles continue to dominate manga sales in Japan.

What is quit surprising to me is seeing the latest volume of Hunter x Hunter on that list. This just shows how hungry the Japanese are for more Hunter x Hunter. (I think the Japanese aren't alone on that note. I think everyone wants more HxH)

The series has managed to maintain its popularity even after almost a two year absence from Togashi-sensei. The latest ten chapters published in Shonen Jump were pretty amazing, and I hope he doesn't keep us in suspense for too long.

Internet samples, however, are biased due to the presence of a greater percentage of tech-savvy people (and thus otaku) than the Japanese population at large who would simply buy something at a bookstore. While it may have a presence in pachinko parlors, Evangelion's main audience is much more niche than say, One Piece, which is thoroughly mainstream title enjoyed by people of all ages (even those who don't read Jump).

Oh wow, Hitman Reborn actually made the list (well, it usually in the top 5 most popular Jump titles as of late), and judging by the volume number, it's in the smack middle of the Varia Rings Arc, prolly the best arc of the series so far.

Too bad it's not that popular over in the States. It's one series that give a chance for, although it really doesn't come to its own until Volume 8.

Hunter x Hunter being in there must have meant the fans were just hungry for some more of it Smile And my favorite series has topped it off, I'm proud to be a One Piece and I hope Oda continues this great story to carry over into 2008.
