Aw, bummer. I don't know if I liked the show enough to buy it (small anime collection + limited funds = can only buy stuff I REALLY like or that's REALLY cheap currently), but I thought BoBoBo-Bo was a fun show.

Looks like Illumintoon can't find a distributor to distribute their titles after Westlake left.

Well that's unfortunate. I know there were a lot of complaints about Beet's quality, but I really liked their work on BoBoBo and what I saw of AM Driver on AN looked pretty good. I hope this is a matter of them restructuring the company or something and not another casualty in what seems to be a collapsing industry.

Why am I not surprised? Considering Illumitoon's colorful history of dubtitles, macro blocking up the wazoo, scrunched credit sequences, oversized text, and a laundry list of complaints from dissatisfied customers, it was only a matter of time before they decided to close up shop.
The question remains: who is going to handle the releases, if at all?

Given their releases were improving after those first few discs, and reviews weren't as harsh on the content itself, it's too bad Illumitoon couldn't find a way to turn things around.
I hope someone manages to find a home for their licenses though. I really would of liked to collect B'Tx. Likewise, Bobobo was a great show [I have the first disc], and it's a shame it's DVD release is now cancelled...

I could see Viz picking up the catalogue. However, considering that these are Toei licenses, Toei could pull them back and sit on them like what we've seen happen with Geneon.
I would be very very sad if Toei doesn't allow BoBoBo to be distributed by someone else.

This doesn't really surprise me, but it is still sad. B't X and Beet the Vandel Buster are fun shows...I hope someone else decides to snag 'em. I know B't X was passed up by ADV in favor of Saint Seiya but, look how that turned out. Maybe someone will pick 'em back up. I'm willing to beg.

All in favor of fansubs, say "aye!"
This is why I say fansubs will be here to stay for quite some time... I would love to have Beet and BT-X and was interested in Amdiver complete on DVD from the US, but with the cancellations, what can I do?
I'm glad I saw the Beet first series and some of the 2nd series, and all of BT'X as fansubs. Now all I can do is hope that someone somewhere will come along and pick up these contracts and complete the series for US DVD releases.
I guess doing the "dubtitles" killed them. They should have paid attention to the past year's great anime survey - and look at this year's as well - to see where they should be going - and how many people want accurate subtitles and complain about the lack of such as a reason for NOT purchasing anime DVDs.

Jeez, people, what's up with the "HOORAY LETS STEAL STUFF" everytime a poor company goes belly up?
It's possible Illumitoon still owns those rights [their titles are showing on ADV's Anime Network], and that these releases will see the light of day from another company. At least wait a year or so to see how it all pans out [which is how long stuff like that can take].... given the dvd's are simply being discontinued, it's possible other plans might be occuring..... it's not quite the same as when Toei withdrew, and made it clear they weren't continuing those releases. I hope ANN and others keep us updated on the situation.
While their first dvd's weren't of the greatest quality, they barely had their foot out of the box, and given their attempts to replace discs and improve subs on subsequent releases, things were looking a bit brighter. It's too bad we've lost another anime distributor before they even really got to release a single title completely.
I'd much rather wait to see how it all pans out, and to see if any other companies opt the titles in the future. There's plenty of other legal anime releases to enjoy in the meantime.

Considering the 'replaced' disks were DVD-Rs with cheap labels, and that I certainly didn't pay for DVD-Rs....well...good riddance.

That's certainly true in my case. I rented Bobobo from Netflix to see what all the hype was about. I watched about 30 seconds of it and realized the subs didn't match the Japanese dialogue. I sent it back and gave it the lowest possible rating I could on Netflix.

I can't say I'll miss them, and I have not seen any of their series in fansubs, nor did I intend to at any point. It's unfortunate all the same, but to me, they were releasing series I had zero interest in, and doing a shoddy job in releasing them -- despite their experience at Funimation in the past.

Eh, I wouldn't call 'em garbage. Sure, they're not high art (any of them) but, B't X and Beet the Vandel Buster were fun shows and would have been worth my money had they seen proper releases. But, honestly after the debacle with the dub-titles and not knowing whether or not the corrected disks would be in stores was kind of a bad move on their part. Their customer service was great, however, during this time...especially when I sent in my Beet Vol. 1 to have it replaced. It just strikes me as odd that in this day and age of completely uncut releases for the most part (with the exception of a few big slaps in the face from the Japanese side of things with Zeta Gundam, the Original Gundam and Kodocha), that they would go ahead and do something like this. Also surprising is the fact that they were ex Funimation people and they were going ahead with this shoddy plan. It smacked of the early 90's and the whole Samurai X incident from Sony.

Jeez, how many times have I told you all that the messed-up subs were Toei's doing?!
