For the longest time I never really liked j-rock since my influences
were mostly from Europe. But after my friend finally got me to listen Dir en Grey's "Marrow of a Bone" album. I finally was able to branch out and listen to music from Japan. ...sort of. I liked the Dir en Grey albums, as I tend to gravitate towards thrash/metal albums. But since I've only seen Dir en Grey albums in the states, I'm looking for something around their genre. Around their genre but better singing. I loved the albums, great band. The singer just doesn't do it for me though. So help me nice forum people of ANN! I'm burnt out on Dir en Grey! Also hi, my fist time posting. Nice to meet ya. |

If you're into thrash and speed metal, you can do much better than that. Check out Volcano or Metalucifer or Sabbat.

I checked him out and I was pretty impressed. He plays acoustic guitar really well, especially Spanish Flamenco. Definitely a CD to buy if I can get a hold of one.
Also went and checked them out too. Metalucifer was my a favourite out of the three. It sounded like California/bay area thrash which was pretty cool. I happen to come across a Visual Kei band just called "D". I saw some of their videos but man it's hard to find their CD's because of the name. It was mostly focused on the visual aspect (hence, visual kei) but it was nice to still see some emphasis on the music. |

check out the Tokyo thrash band Grief of War (new album "Worship" will be released on July 7). The album features a guest solo by Korn guitarist Shane Gibson! www.myspace.com/griefofwar

I started listening to the band back in 1999 and I like songs such as Garden, I''ll, and Wake but then I got my hand on the Vulgar album and I was like Holy S*&T this is awesome. Since Vulgar I have bought every album and DVD release. Does anyone know if a Dir en Grey Blu Ray is coming out?

The band actually came by to visit NYC at Kinokuniya Bookstore a few months ago. We had a huge turnout. Surprisingly, fans weren't rushing them. Here is the overall podcast.

Damn, I still got Uroboros, but i want to buy the other albums. I have downloaded most of their songs but I rather want the CDs in my hands. I am saving up money for Average Blasphemy, and Roses Trim Again. Oh and I always play Uroboros and Kisou everyday in school, especially in 5th period; Spanish Speakers is boring, all thanks to the teacher. |

Dir is a good starter band, but i found that i left them after the Vulgarism tour. If you like metal, try Deathgaze and Distraught Overlord DIO, Exist Trace, Sadie, The Gazette was another good starter band, Unsraw has CRAZY vocals, Girugamesh, Lareine had good vocals too, Versailles, HIZAKI Grace Project, Lynch if you find you like Deathgaze, RENTRER EN SOI, SINCE 1889, BLACK~LIST, And Miyavi was the reason i picked up the guitar again a few years back.
Im more of a J-Thrash guy so I prefer The Piass, ANTI_FEMINISM, The DEAD POP STARS, and +ISOLATION, if its a genre you can dig, id highly recommend them. |
