Don't hold your breath.
Unless you're at least an 8 on the 10 scale for women, don't even bother, because you're probably going to get screened out by the qualifiers or DQ'ed by the Japanese.
We learned about how some Japanese view cosplay as a beauty contest...

Recognition for what? Your looks? Because WCS could certainly care less about cosplay.
Its just a costume-themed beauty contest.
Should be noted too that its being held at NYAF because no other con in the country wanted anything to do with this debacle.

I'm actually shocked anyone wanted in that quickly, after the debacle.
Look, if you aren't willing to stick your ass up some ecchi Japanese otaku's TV camera, don't bother with this crap.

Well, from what I can tell, its NYAF's first year. What better way to up attendance than to get all the starry-eyed young cosplayers to attend with the hopes of winning a trip to japan? *sigh*

$10 says one of the acts is a Rose of Versailles cosplay. And it'll be dumped in a spectacular way by the Japanese.
The only people I see even remotely winning this contest.....are either more concerned about modeling a/or have completely escaped the fandom.

After personally hearing about the 2005 competition from one of the USA finalists who went to Japan, I wouldn't touch this thing with a 10 foot pole.

Which is even more amazing, considering the winning team in 06 was cosplaying Rose of Versailles.

That's because they were prettier.

Let me put it this strongly:
Any plans I might've had to make the cross-country trip to this show (and there were a few) are squashed by them getting involved with this rigged farce.

this convention has officially whooped the f***ing shit out of AX and all other cons before this.
there is no way you will be able to sign up for this con at the gate. when people start to hear about this the entire pre-reg thing is going to fill up the entire attendance capacity of this con.
whats next, Miyazaki shows up!?
