I don't know if there is a large enough market for Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou so it'll probably never get licensed over here, but I have to agree with you I REALLY REALLY wish it would.

I was disappointed that the Japanese fans basically chose to stick to their own awards rather than nominating anything Japanese for the Hugo (anyone who was registered far enough ahead of time could nominate).

Better yet, they could make an anime series. I mean, look at how they're milking ARIA these days.

I know-- I thought when the started giving Aria a 2nd and 3rd season that YKK would get animated for sure. Aria is often one of the first recommendations of other YKK-like manga on YKK boards. Yet, nada.
It'd be wonderful if something like this award gave it just enough prestige that someone would pick it up as a "cultured" title. It's obviously never going to be a blockbuster seller, but with recognition like it's getting right now, that definitely helps its "luster."
Here's hoping for either.
