Psychologically speaking, many art forms are incredibly dangerous to the human mind. A first person narrative of sadistic torture for instance can cause someone to visualize themselves as the torturer, which in turn may project itself on the personality of the observer in a similar form to religious meditation that allows suspended disbelief to carry on into real life. The same circumstance may also be included within an electronic medium such as Grand Theft Auto, where the observer watches as a character applies a chainsaw to a prostitute under the direction of that observer. The argument that it 'isn't real' is a common one, but I would prefer to look at the concept more indepthly before making decisions based either on my acceptance or denial of that property.

In reality, there cannot be multiple truths to a situation. There is always a correct answer and interpretation is merely the human attempt to clarify their view of that reality. In other words, you cannot trust someones statement that something is a certain way. There must be guidelines to which one adheres because a proper understanding of reality is necessary to prevent harming others regardless of intention or interpretation of situations. This is why there are governments, to enforce hardline interpretations of reality due to the danger of interpretation. If someone believes wrong, they are dangerous to people besides themselves. In real life, witchcraft isn't the adventure Harry Potter says it is, in real life, girls who beat the crap out of a guy every day would go to jail. In real life, a vigilante is a terrorist, killers never redeem themselves and elementary schoolgirls do not have in any case the maturity to make a sexual decision. So the argument for the 'isn't real' argument in my opinion is based most strongly on the concept that Harry Potter isn't using witchcraft, The Hina girls are not practicing domestic violence in the traditional sense, the Punisher isn't a vigilante, Alucard isn't a killer and Rin isn't a little girl. In case you missed my meaning, they are creatures that cannot exist in the real world and thus are not what they resemble.

But of course they do resemble... they resemble real things and to believe that they are real, or 'exist' is very dangerous. A child who reads Harry Potter may indeed pick up a book about Wiccan rituals if not forewarned by a parent, a girl might lower her otherwise strong guard and hit her cheating boyfriend with a frying pan, a group of teens might decide to take up arms against the local gangs, a women could marry a dangerous man romantically believing she can change him and of course, a schoolteacher might decide that an underage students advances are something other than naivety. These are real dangers and while I do not necessarily agree with the no compromise beliefs of men like Zach Thompson, I would not in any way consider them idiots and in fact honor their place in society as those who help prevent people from crossing the forementioned boundaries.

All of that said, the journey between reality and fantasy is one most of us take everyday and though the risks are greater, they are no different than the challenges we face in knowing that the real world is not the world of Full Metal Panic and we therefore should avoid bringing firearms to class (however noble our intentions might be). I personally believe that imagining and meditating on negative themes is no less vile than acting on such desires in real life, but I recognize the fact that things like KnJ are unrealistic situations that while similar to real life events, do not operate on the same physics of the real world. Essentially, if the author is saying something, it is for the purpose of that work of fiction, the true nature of the story. Of course, this very reason is why I no longer choose to view real life pornography, my awareness that is, that there are real women selling their bodies like meat and suffering as a result of my supporting the industry. If something childlike is being hurt in either the real world, the cold reality is that it is a child and it is being savagely abused. And if in their fantasies, someone hurts a child, then they are the same kind of pedophile that is better contained in a jail or in need of serious mental help. And in the real world, any sexual involvement with a child is hurting them because no matter what you think, you are hurting them. And also, if you see children when connecting with lolicon material, you are guilty of the same actions that would damn a pedophile. So it comes to the final point that only a fantasy setting is capable of containing a character who retains the nature of lolicon art and themes without violating the sanctity of a child either within your own mind or the real world.

But as I've already stated over and over, the similarities are dangerous and those with naturally violent tendencies (sexual or physical) are unlikely to be capable of constructing the proper mental boundary and thus are advised to avoid the material entirely. Volatile mediums are what they sound like, dangerous, but like all dangerous things, not incapable of positive formatting.

Final note: This thread belongs in the manga section for reasons I feel no need to state.

I'm pretty sure most of the people here already know the difference between fiction and reality. I don't see how any of what you wrote, aside from a few titles you mentioned, have anything to do with anime or manga.

If this is some kind of personal campaign or philosophy you're trying to tell us about, that's great. But it feels a little too off-topic and out of place to just be called a "manga subject" in any kind of sense, considering all the social factors you also threw in.

If you want to alter some of the content in your opener and make this more content-specific over a certain anime or manga title (minus the Harry Potter and porn references), then that would be fine. It's just that from this initial opener, you seemed to be all over the place, which can lead to all sorts of off-topic conversation/flaming/whatever, which would probably be better suited for other types of forums.
