Has anybody heard and or seen this anime? I had just bought it, a complete series 1-27 episodes, and the real reason I ask is because I want to know about what comes before, and after this anime. I popped in the first disc and quickly got the feeling this isnt the beginning of this anime. If any of you can help, I would be appreciative. Thanks

I've seen both the OVA and this series. To answer your question, Chronicles isn't really a sequel to the OVA series. It's actually a retelling of the events that followed episode 8 in the OVA. See, at the time the original Lodoss OVAs were being made, the novels on which they were based on had not yet been finished. Since this is a more recent production, and the novels are all available, this series follows the original storyline more closely.
It's probably best to think of this series as a replacement of Eps. 9-13 of the OVA, because you'll probably be very confused otherwise. (Although there is one issue of continuity--Shiris and Orson meet Parn and Deedlit as if it's the first time in the FIRST episode of the TV series!) Production value-wise, well, its weaker than the OVA in terms of character design and cel count. The pacing of the story is also somewhat sluggish, with the first eight episodes focusing on Fire Dragon Mountain and the battle for the Scepter of Domination, with the remaining 19 about Spark, who is basically a younger version of Parn fighting to protect Slayn and Leylia's daughter, named Little Neese, from the Dark Wizard Wagnard, who wants to use her as a tool to resurrect the Evil Goddess.
Once you get past the continuity issues and the slapdash production values, this is a pretty interesting continuation of Lodoss, and in many ways it expands on it.
Also, if you happened to watch the Lodoss OVA dubbed, the dub for the TV show reprises most of its cast; in comparison, the Japanese language track replaces all the performers from the OVA with replacements who aren't half as good. There are some weak voices in the dub, but there are good ones as well; the subbed version of Chronicles, from what I've seen, isn't all that flawless either, but I do give the dub a nod for being consistent with most of its cast for a majority of the show.

Also the story continues, sort of, in The Legend of Crystiana the Movie and the Legend of Crystiana the Chaos Ring.
You could also have found some of this information in the Encyclopedia under whatever title you have. The Encyclopedia usually will list any sequels/prequels and other related series.
