According to Barnes and Nobles' website, Rurouni Kenshin Vol.2 is coming out in January 2004 and vol.3 is coming out in February. Is Viz releasing Rurouni Kenshin monthly from vol. 2 to 28?

This could be just a bump in production that the two titles are being released so close together.

I thought Kenshin was gonna be Bi-monthly... now I'll have to recalculate how long it'll take for the whole manga to be released! On a bi-monthly schedule I had estimated 4 and a half years... but at a monthly rate could take 2...

I heard it was going to be run in the American Shonen Jump.
But then, I really never understood how Kenshin fell in line with the likes of Yu-Gi-Oh! and DBZ (aside from "OMG TEH ANIMEY'S ON TOONAMI BCOZ IST GOT FITES WHIT SORDES!" ![]() And I apologize for my extremely cynical posts tonight. I'm not exactly a happy walk in the posies this evening... |

Kenshin will not be running Shonen Jump. There have been character descriptions and in issue #11 there was a preview, but that is the extent of it being in Shonen Jump. It is not going to run in it. Kenshin will be released in graphic novel format only.
On a side note for that Toonami crack - CN thought they could find an audience for Kenshin on Toonami, however they were mistaken. The people that watched it was an older demographic than they meant to target, which is what caused them to pull it off Toonami and put it on Saturday nights. |

To quote Spike from Bebop, "I know the whole sad story." Still, if they had even bothered to put any thought into it and go over the show's content, they'd have seen that it was clearly not a Toonami show. They put Inu-Yasha & Trigun on Adult Swim and Kenshin is darker, more violent, and more politically-charged than them by quite a ways (Trigun comes close, but no cigar). A poor decision is a poor decision is a poor decision, and this was one really poor decision, no matter how you rationalize it. So either they had a severe lapse of sanity the day that decision was made, or they only made it by glancing over a plot synopsis and going, "It's popular, and it has SWORD FIGHTS! This is 6-11 age range GOLD!" No offense to you, by the way. None of this cynical rage was meant to be sent in your direction. This whole situation just pisses me off. |

Unlikely, Nagisa. What's more likely is that they saw the first four or so episodes and made a judgement based on that. The first few episodes are pretty cute, you can hardly predict some of the violence that's going to happen after that.

Hm, this is true. The first few episodes do little to convey future events such as the duel with Jin'e, the Oniwabanshu & Kanryuu's opium dealings, Raijuuta's little...thing, Sanosuke's buddy's anti-government shtick, the Christian Arc, and of course the Kyoto Arc (the series' brightest shining point, and also its grimmest in terms of content

The reason why volumes 2&3 are coming out so close together is probably because since about May, VIZ has had the rights to RuroKen, and they can translate pretty fast... 1 wil be realeased on the 30th of October, apparently, but don't expect too much out of their translations... they aren't that great, and the could be another factor of why they're so close together.

Does anyone remember the message that I posted with the pic from the first volume from Amazon. That was not the real cover. The real cover, straight from Viz's website, is here!

Oh my God, I want to KISS THEM! For once someone didn't try to worm the word "Samurai" into the title of something Kenshin-related!
