That's what I thought when I first read the story (that Romeo X Juliet was licensed) but then I re-read and I saw that GONZO themselves are showing the subtitled episode, so I don't think it's licensed since GONZO are the ones that own the property over in Japan, not here in the US.

Oh, darn. My Juliet/Odin/Red Whirlwind (haven't quite decided) cosplay won't be until next year.
I wonder if any of the staff will be signing things...? Cool, I could get my needlework of the Calpulet and Montague coat-of-arms signed. (Yup, I am a shamless nerd here) |

Go Gonzo! I don't know whether I want them to annouce the license or not. I want to finish watching the series first. I hate leaving series unfinished especially it would mean waiting at least 2 years before being able to continue on. But I will so buy this series when it gets licensed.
I would love cosplay as Odin but I can't sew. Maybe I should just go for it. . . . |

I am actually thinking the same thing, Gonzo does make appearances to the bigger cons but to say there screening subtitled RxJ episodes makes me think that someone is going to announce it at the con. Geneon anyone? After there previous work on Gankutusuou my money is on them. |

Lord, I hope ADV or Funi gets the rights to this show.
I was incredibly unhappy with the dub to Count of Monte Cristo (though not surprised, since Bang Zoom dubs almost always are mediocre at best), and I was hoping Romeo x Juliet would get a dub I liked to better justify buying the domestic discs. *hopes for good dub* |

I'm a dub person, there I said it. But your right the Count of Monte Cristo dub just couldn't hold up next to the superior quality of the original Japanese dialog. Jouji NAKATA as the count, and I actually like him more as the count then I do in Hellsing although he's great in both roles. But his role as the count overshadows everyone in the Japanese dub, also I didn't like how the English version switch openings around I really like the French openings. |

Oh I love dubs, when they're good.
But I don't really like a good portion of the dubs that Geneon discs have (especially Bang Zoom jobs), and the regular actors they get don't seem to have a lot of range (especially Johnny Yong Bosch and Crispin Freeman, who I think are highly overused). Not to mention the fact that there is a dramatically different method/style of how to go about producing a dub in the LA/Canada acting pool versus the Texas one, and I prefer (more often than not), the dubs that ADV and Funi produces for their serious projects. It's all personal taste, and I'm sure to be lambasted for them by diehard Crispin or Bosch peoples (on top of other Geneon defenders), but I feel that I've watched a TON of anime (dubbed) over the years, and feel that my opinions are relatively educated and personally justified). Though I'll be honest, the first time I got actively mad at a Gebeon dub was the amazingly lazy and disrespectful rush job Bang Zoom did on Saiyuki Reload. They didn't seem to really care at all about the people who'd been so invested in the series dub, casted entirely different sounding people (who's acting abilities are questionable at best), and just plain phoned it in. They could've at least done something similar to what Manga Entertainment did for the Evangelion movies, and hired the people from the original series to come in for the dub (though I'm sure Saiyuki money isn't anywhere near Eva money), or leave the damn series to ADV. I now have a hard time dumping my cash on a Geneon project unless I hear the dub first, and decide if I want to bother from there (I feel kinda jyped if I buy an anime DVD just for the subs sometimes). |

The director of Mushi-shi screened a subtitled episode at AX last year long before Funimation got the rights in October, maybe this is the same sort of thing.

It's likely that a number of these premieres are done to discern what kinds of demographics the title would appeal to in order to seal whatever deals are in the works.
