This would be right up Sci-Fi channel's alley. It's the Final Countdown with more moral questions and less 80's music.
The idea of getting Japan to withdraw on its own terms (and therefore avoid being nuked) is another interesting development. Usually in stories like this, they have Japan winning the war, but leaving to do its own thing? That's not so common.

I'm really liking this series. I was getting frustrated with how slow it was moving along during the first 3 volumes, but volume 4 really started to get things moving. It even revealed why the series is called "Zipang." The name is even cooler now that I know the meaning behind it. But yeah, the English dub really drags it down. I'm still watching it dubbed though, as I've endured through much worse in my day. It's also easier to understand, and it adds some nice unintentional humor to the series as the British accents and overuse of US Southern accents is quite funny.

I recently noticed this series and instantly became interested in it. It seems it's getting good reviews, so I might check it out, but as for the review, if the dub is so poor, why did it get a "B"?

Volume four was really intense compared to the first three DVDs. The CG aircrats are definitely some of the best I've seen on a television series. The characters are very believable and the balance between courage, rationality, and idealism is perfect. This review seems a bit late since Volume 5 just arrived and I'm looking forward to watching it soon.

Remember, it's an "Overall (dub)" grade, not a "Dub" grade. The fact that the dub pulls the Overall average down that much should be a good indicator of how bad it is.

I have to politely disagree. Filling a series with high-tech and legendary weapons is one thing, but being unrealistic (in technological, historical, and political ways) turns me down. Furthermore, I still can't forgive Kawaguchi had done to the military manga genre with his Silent Service. More can be found in my old posts (search "Kawaguchi" with user "dormcat").
