What's next? Saying paying for anime is passe? Lame.
Anyway, trying to save this thread from fail, I'll say that this is crap. Either show the full uncut and totally wrong underage sex that was in the original Japanese release, or don't liscence it.
I love Media Blasters and their X-rated related company. (I almost picked some up today at a con, but went for some of their regular Japanese live action films instead.) They have busted down taboos and I am proud of them for it. Hell, this is the company that first brought over Beserk. They have my eternal grattitude for that alone. They even liscence hardcore yaoi. Not my thing, but I applaude them for making a stand. So, I'm pretty disapointed they balked at this front.

The Xenos: The thing here is that John Sirabella even posted on AoD that he's a complete pussy when it comes to going to jail, which he potentially could have because these sorts of things, despite no children actually being harmed, are illegal. I do agree that they shouldn't have licensed it in the first place, and that they honestly should actually possibly watch what they might buy before they you know... buy it.
Either way, atleast the issue has been addressed and won't happen again, one way or another.

They can do what H-game licencers do and just state that "All characters are at least 18 years old" on the cornor of the box
You'll be reaching for the stars, but nothing can touch you at that point

I like John. He's a nice guy. But that line is really suspect in my view. I mean, when was the last time "Uncensored and Uncut" was NOT meant at least as a potential selling point?

So is actually reading your posts. *shrug*

Nearly every domestic hentai distributor has released multiple titles that could be considered to have lolicon content. The only one I can't recall releasing anything loli-ish was Softcel, but I was never terribly familiar with their lineup, so I could be forgetting something.

Regardless of what you think of their content, some of the best transfers I've ever seen came from Kitty Media.

As much as I would like to believe John, it just doesn't make much sense that they would actually license shows blindly. Somebody had to have seen it or they wouldn't have bought it. From what I've read, on a per-minute basis hentai typically costs more to license than more mainstream anime.

Not only can they be 'touched' and strangled by the likes of Alberto Gonzalez's* anti-porn task forces, but the one and only domestic H-game distributor appears to be on the way down the tubes regardless.
*For those who don’t know, Alberto Gonzalez is the US Attorney General who is currently facing pressure to resign for apparently politicizing Justice Department firings and for punishing those who refused to target conventional pornography featuring consenting adults over crimes such as premeditated homicide. Not surprisingly Gonzalez still enjoys continued support by our mindless President and his right-wing neo-con puppet masters. The whole debate seems rather pointless at this late stage as Bush has repeatedly made a point of guarding every hen house with the sneakiest fox he could find all throughout his political career. Anybody who shows surprise at these actions is either a fool or considers their constituency as such.

Nope. I just don't see why I should bother paying $30 for one hour of animated tits, when a bunch of two minute clips will suffice. I buy anime, because I like the story and characters, not because the cover looks wankable. I wish certain
nameless reviewers at AOD would realize that most fans feel the same way.

I'm for story and characters, as well. I'm also for wankability. And finally; I ain't going to jail over overtly loli content, either.
No more jokes, please. I asked those guys over at KM about the lack of QC. They said that they handled it after the crappy English dubbing of Tokineiro / "A Time To Screw." (And yes, I listened to adult anime dubbed in English.)
Also note:
Quote: | The supervisor also noted that uncensored masters for adult Japanese animated videos without "blurring" is getting more difficult to obtain for overseas licensees. "I'm not positive why, but if I had to guess I would say that the Japanese market is taking a hit from bootleggers, who copy American uncensored product and sell it back to Japan. If the native Japanese product has its own advantages over our American product, then perhaps it will give the Japanese public a good reason to buy it instead of getting the bootlegs." |
How about: "Not messing around with the audience?" "Tear down that censor law?" "Release that stuff uncensored and without dirty tricks?"
I make guesses as well: That company JapanAnime, right? I insult them for not releasing anything with an English dub on it. I see their products on Japanese sites that sell adult anime. And I can easily call them the worst bootlegging company out there.

As Ronnie James Dio said
"We pray to someone, but when it's said & done it's really all the same with just a different name"
There's really NOTHING new under the sun, just different ways of packaging it. Yeah, I like a good story, but I can get that at the local movie theater for $6 at least half a dozen times out of ther year & hopefully more. Yeah, a nice story is good, but as I sat watching Noein Vol 3 this weekend, I was thinking it'd be so much nicer if we had the Gakuen Heaven Boys or the Saiyuki Boys running around instead of the fairly common character designs the show has. Karasu could be such a bishie.
Bleach may steal blatantly from shonen stories past, but at least they look good rehashing moves.

Actually... it depends on the country, but in the US, child porn is legal as long as no real children were harmed in the process. From wikipedia:
"Texts are not considered child pornography in USA, because, the court has ruled repeatedly that the only valid basis for laws restricting free speech in this way is actual damage to real children. Any text or work that involves or depicts no real child, (and is not otherwise "obscene"), is never illegal."
However -- and I can't remember where I read this -- there was a single case in which someone was charged for having child porn and some other stuff, and hentai was *among* them. So it's uncertain if the hentai added to his offenses in that case.
Interestingly, Japan also prohibits child porn:
"In Japan child erotica was legal until 1999, when it became illegal following the passing of Protecting Children Online law."

Well with the age of consent (to the standard) being 16 over there, supposedly they can show "underage" girls involved in sex acts, etc. I guess sometimes you have to take the alternate route so as not to draw fire, but I have to agree with one of the above mentioned statements: just say that all characters depicted are 18 or over. I see that all the time even though it's obvious a character looks younger than that.

There are no clearly defined lines when it comes to subjects like this and what's considered legal in one city/county/state may not be considered legal in another. There is no one community standard that applies to the entire US.

If they are serious about this, there's a lot of merit to be found in targetting bootleggers. I mean, they could kill off 90% of the h-bootleg industry by sending the Greece based 'Silver Star DVD' pirates to a watery grave. These guys must be making millions over the backs of American and Japanese companies, I've seen virtually every Kitty Media title in bootlegged form for sale over here.

So, if you say it's true, then it must be true? Ok, so where's your proof that lolicon is illegal in the U.S.? 10Yen already said earlier in the thread that tons of other hentai companies release lolicon in the U.S. with no problems at all. Kitty Media themselves even released Kite uncut in the U.S. even though the uncut version contained animated underaged sex. So, if lolicon is illegal in the U.S. why haven't all these other companies or even Kitty Media themselves been arrested yet? The only way I can see Kitty Media's statement making any sense is if they mean like somebody from another country where lolicon is illegal importing the R1, but then it never stopped them from releasing Kite uncut. And if the line about the DVD being uncut was a mistake, why haven't they done a recall on the cases yet or at least fixed the cover on all future cases?
