Are Kaoru and Hikarou, the Twins in Ouran High School Host Club really gay?
Me and my friend had this huge discussion about this.
The thing is- [slight spoiler, sorry] In the episode where we learn how Tamaki got the twins to go into the club and you can see that they aren't all lovey-dovey intill Takami asked them to be.
So are they or not?

No.
They're very close to each other, but not gay.
It's all just an act, providing a service for the patrons of the club.
It's easy enough to see this if you look at how they behave outside of the club.

No they are not, though many Ouran fans who also happen to be yaoi fangirls stress that they are.
Aside from their confession in ep 5 that they are behaving that way just to please their customers, it was obvious from many episodes that Hikaru likes Haruhi, it was also revealed in a recent chapter of the manga that wasn't featured in the anime that Kaoru also likes Haruhi, but he's keeping it a secret so it won't affect his relationship with Hikaru.

It definitely is an act. They certainly are very close, but I have never felt for a moment that the incest thing was actually real, despite the crazed fangirls and their opinions. Hikaru/Kaoru is my second least favourite pairing for Ouran (the worst being Hunny/Mori...their relationship so isn't sexual and making it such disturbs me to no end).

Ah, so true - but then again shota isn't my thing. Mind you, they play with it for the same reason Hikaru and Kaoru do - might not be that calculated from Mori's point of view, but Hatori hints on several occasions that Hunny isn't as nearly as innocent as he lets people believe.

i haven't really read the manga yet. mainly due to the version sold in stores being edited to a highly painfully obvious level.

I don't think they are, it seems to me like its all just an act for the club patrons. Especially since Hikaru obviously has a thing for Haruhi.

Do you mean Kyouya?
Whether Kaoru and Hikaru are gay is never definitively answered (meaning gay in general, and not just the twincest angle). Hikaru is shown to have some feelings for Haruhi, but really, none of the characters really have their sexuality defined as being one way or the other. I also seem to remember Haruhi saying that she was less conscious of gender and that she probably had "tendencies" ( ). Meaning that I think the interpretation is left up to the viewer, by the author, on purpose. Ah, ambiguity...

No I mean Bisco Hatori, the mangaka There are comments in the the manga in the vein of "is he as innocent as he appears" regarding Hunny.

The ambiguity is nice. It means that you as the reader/viewer are allowed to imagine any pairing you like.
Personaly, my favourite pairing is Haruhi/Tamaki, second to Haruhi/Kaoru and Hikaru

I've never noticed any edits or heard of any before this, please explain.

I just started watching Ouran (in fact, I watched the first 2 episodes an hour and a half ago). I was surprised at how "close" they were with each other, but it never crossed my mind they were gay. My impression was they love themselves too much - like for example. Hikaru loves himself, but wouldn't it be too embarassing if he hugged himself in public and told himself that he was good looking? So he turned to the next best thing - hugging his twin and telling him how good looking he is.. It's better than talking to a mirror

That's a really interesting analysis and I can definitely see it being true to an extent, though at the same time they also definitely do see themselves as somewhat unique people, a view which develops over the course fo the series. But at the beginning, a little self-love being involved makes a lot of sense.
