Since its spring break, i have been going wild with anime. In the past 7 days i breezed through Mai-Hime, Mai-Otome, Death Note, Elfen Lied, Fate/Stay, and Chobits, while continuing to watch continuing series. Problem is that i dont remember them taht wheel. I just watched elfen lied just 3 or 4 days ago, and i am having trouble remembering main characters and whatnot. Has this ever occurred to anyone? I tried to slow down on the episode watching, but its like pringles, ya just cant stop.

Hmm, then maybe it's about time to enjoy and watch them again! Or keep a journal. Lots of times a journal helps in recalling your initial reactions to an anime.
Though, I do forget sometimes, so I had to rewatch things. Like for Evangelion, I totally forgot about the sketch animation and only remembered the squiggly lines. I'm going to have to rewatch the whole series one of these days

same thing. I don't ever have the time to watch as much anime in a short amount of time as you, but I have a hard time remembering plots, characters, and even what animes I watched a long time ago. Usually I can only remember the punch line of the anime, or only a few main scenes. Usually it doesn't take much to jog your memory though

Lol, i cant stand rewatching old series. True, they are good, but its not the same as the 1st time. The only time i believed i rewatched old series are those like Kanon and Meloncholies of Haruhi Suzumiya (in chronological order)
I love listening to anime music, especially music played in vital scenes. I think its similiar to a journal. One of the music i love is Eureka 7's Himitsu Kichi. It would always bring back the initial reactions.

the only series I'm able to rewatch easily is School Rumble. Otherwie I can't really go back to a series. Music for some reason does create strong association with the story, so when I listen to anime music, I can usually remember more then other times. one of my favorite "vital scene" songs is probably "I'm here" from Madlax

I had the same problem for the opposite reason recently. I watched Gasaraki, a series that has a lot of detailed backdoor political shenanigans going on. It would often be 3 or 4 days between when I watched episodes, so I'd usually rewatch whatever was the last episode I watched, then watch the next episode or 2 after that. Then a few days later, it'd be the same thing all over again. It took me almost a month to watch a 26 episode series because of that.

when u talk about watchin all them series in one week. man can i relate to that however i dont forget much except the names of characters because i dont do good with remembering unfamilar things if u get what im sayin. my teacher says as long as u get sufficient sleep (8 hours) to let ur brain reprogram/record it all in ur head u shouldnt have a problem when we brought up the subject, why cant people remember stuff after studying
as for rewatching though. im quite the opposite, id love to rewatch series to catch little things i missed/ while im introducing them to a friend or just to revisit that particular world. of course watching it again after just finishing it is generally not exciting at all so i do stretch it over a few months or more

Oh, man I do that all the time, watch a lot of shows, especially when they're good, and when you're done with another one, you don't quite remember the names of people or where they lived or anything. All the time. Although I'll eventually get it back.

Many of them are generically the same anyways. As for remembering character names and stuff - that's Trivial info. Besides, the ones that I do remember are the ones who had made a big impact -- to my memory.

During the first few episodes of a new series that I'm watching, I'd usually forget the names and some details. However, by the time I actually get into the series, or the time I finish, I don't think I forget anything important.
I sometime rewatch some stuff that I've seen already, and it's mostly based on the enjoyment factor that I gained from watching it the first time. If I felt the series boring at first, then I likely won't be rewatching it.

You can always ask other people. That's what I do - it's better than rewatching, at least for me, since I try to watch as much anime as I can (I've been on hiatus for 3 years).
It's rare for me to forget details. I notice that I can remember things very well, thanks to studying law (but I already had good memory WAY before college). We memorize a lot of things, and that really improved my memory. An example is when I watch things on local TV. I watch Japanese dubbed series, and here they show them in Tagalog dub. I watched this episode of Yakitate!! Japan last week (and the last time I watched the series was 2 months ago) and I found myself being able to remember what a certain character said, so I was able to tell discrepancies in the tagalog translation.
Asako mentioned something about keeping a journal. I actually do that - I keep a notebook where I put all my reactions and opinions on a certain anime I am watching, and I also put in important details like the names of the characters, but I only do this for the first episode. Writing actually helps you remember things more.

Don't assume that'll change things... every time my boyfriend breaks out the anime/ videogame soundtracks to make a new mix disc, I get to play 'name that tune' on the way home from work.

Lol, i actually remember female character names more than the male, which is odd, especially since the series i've watched and forgotten recently has the male character as the main character. Maybe its because im a dude. How bout the ladies, do u remember the male character's names better?
