They should have (also) done this to episode 10. That is what Urobuchi said they had to cut significantly.

Be careful. Studios tend to throw the words "Director's Cut" (or in this case "Director's Edit") around too freely. Just ask Ridley Scott. But if there really is a different cut of the last episode, I'll check it out for sure. I don't think they'd let something like that pass for the U.S. release unless they wanted every fan in the country to download the show again.

You'd be surprised. The U.S. did not receive the "special edition" version of Koihime Muso. I'm not sure if Sentai did not put in enough effort in acquiring it, or the Japanese were simply too greedy.
