Honne Onna in Kyousetsu Hyaku Monogatari and Jigoku Shoujo

I'm a fan both the series Kyousetsu Hyaku Monogatari (Hundred Stories) and of the series Jigoku Shoujo (Hell Girl).

The character of Honne Onna (Bone Woman) in Jigoku Shoujo seems to be mirrored by a character with essentially the same appearance and attitude in Kyousetsu Hyaku Monogatari.

Are these two characters related? The similarities seem to go beyond chance. Is this simple copying, is the ghost-geisha a common literary theme?
