Another cheaply-priced Madoka Magica item of interest? Too bad none of it is likely to come over here… Crying or Very sad

I guess I shouldn't be too surprised over Oshii liking the series, since he has gone on ad nauseum about the stale state of anime spoiler[(without really doing anything to counter it or show the way, but that's another argument for another day…)] and the show subverts one of its most formulaic genres. It would be very interesting to see what he writes, as well as who the other names contributing to the book are.

Now I really want to see Oshii and Kazuo Koike having a conversation about Madoka Magica. I mean, c'mon... Kazuo Koike!!

You must been living under a rock for a long time, haven't watched the series, I have my doubts it could be successful as a franchise series.

He's referring to all the Madoka swag/items/whatsits making it over here, not the show itself.

Cool that Oshii is a PMMM fan. That's not too surprising to hear though.

Has any series undergone such a sharp trajectory of popularity in such a short time? I mean, I loved this series when I got around to watching it. Well animated, good characters and memorable scenes throughout. But let's be honest, this series came out THIS year. The hype surrounding this show is starting to become nuts to me. By the time Thanksgiving rolls around, we'll all be talking about how "old" PMMM is and whenever Aniplex gets around to releasing the DVDs (and Blu-rays hopefully) they'll probably label this series as an "Anime Classic" or something. Ha!

This is pretty cool... so, if Mamoru Oshii was to make an anime with magical girls, what pertinent philiosophical discussions would be had? What Important Questions would Oshii raise in a way that only Oshii could? What explicit biblical references could he hammer out and connect with magical girls? Laughing

Actually, the idea of Oshii creating a work with magical girls sounds genuinely intriguing, now that I think about it...

Oshii still makes movies in his own individualistic way. Just because many fans don't like them doesn't mean he's not still idiosyncratic.

I have no idea what BlackJaded was talking about (and for the record, I've already watched it in full and kept up on its news), unless they were mistaking the first question in the post for me being oblivious to all of the Madoka Magica talk going on.

I don't know about how far it could go in terms of merchandising success here in North America, but it would be nice to see at least a few select items here, like that fan package announced earlier or the Kyubey punching toy. It doesn't necessarily have to be a deluge of stuff, but things like this book wouldn't be too bad to see here (though I hope the book is of some good substance). Additionally, I'm astonished at the reasonable prices being offered for these items, given Japan's propensity for sky-high (if not often inflated) prices.
