After surfing www.Cnet.com, I came across a freeware program called Anime on Demand. It's states that it offers hundreds of free streaming anime. After taking a good look at this download, I'm still puzzled whether its a legal or illegal software and I don't want to risk posting this url for people to freeload off of anime. So does anyone know if this program is legit or not?

There's no publisher information for the program which leads me to believe it is not legit. If it was something legal then the publisher wouldn't mind posting their info and actually linking you to their site so you can read their legal lingo. I honestly don't know how they are doing this, it seems like a very impressive hack but a hack job none the less.

Edit, I looked at the screenshot section and looking closely Black Lagoon is the title that is highlighted. Black Lagoon is licensed but not available in the US until April. So definitely does not look good for the program.

I just checked their website and there is no legal info. The only thing close to it are 2 sponser ads, one of them being from AnimeNation.

Yeah I was just browsing their website too. Their "affiliates" are a couple of distro and fansub groups, and the developer of the software is a user named "rathlar." As soon as I saw that I was totally convinced this is not legit. And I didn't see the sponsor ads you are talking about but I will say that when you have a website and allow streaming ads you don't have a lot of control what shows up as well as companies like AnimeNation wouldn't know all the sites that their ad appears on.

Definitely looks sketchy.
You were wise to post and get a second opinion(s).

Whether the software itself is legitimate or not, it's certainly not legal.

No doubt. This is definitely illegal.

here's a fun idea. Anyone crack open the source code to see if there are any "value added features"?

I'll put a dollar to donuts there's probably a few.
