No, there could be, someday an OVA. However, the rights to it are messed up and would make little sense. Trigun came out too fast. Past the showing of Vash's past, it is not based on the manga anymore. They wrote the last few episodes from scratch, (did a good job too), but with multiple publishers and companies, it becomes hard to say who owns the rights and which story to use.
For example, and these are major anime spoilers, Knives, and Nicolas are fine at the end of the season. Knives doesn't get hurt, while Wolfwood lives Deciding to go via the anime or manga gets hard, and can make a mangled story, like the Kenshin Reflections OVA.

My understanding is that Nightow considers the TV series to be a separate work from the manga and a finished work at that. IIRC, he's said that he'd consider a movie, but he feels the TV series is complete. I don't think licensing plays into it, as the TV series was licensed after Shonen Captain had gone out of business.

Hi.
I think licensing may actually play into it. The Trigun and Trigun Maximum mangas are the same series; the "maximum" was added only after a dispute over rights (or something similar) when the (manga) series moved to another publisher. Since the anime series was based (for the most part) on the Trigun manga, it probably can't continue into Maximum territory without a messy battle over getting the license to it (Trigun Maximum)...
But I'm just guessing that.
EDIT: Oops, just read the last line of the second post. Ignore mine then.

(this is might be a dumb question, but...) would anyone know when the Trigun manga is coming out in the U.S. I have yet to buy my first manga, and I was thinking either FLCL, Excel Saga, or the Trigun Maximum manga

Volume two is January 7th

I don't see any point in making more episodes anyway.
Animes are like that, once a series is done it's done and it drives you crazy just thinking of what could have happened after the series. But that's what movies and OVAs are for.
