I was watching Kamikaze Kaito Jeanne and I keep thinking that it's much like D.N. Angel. Both steal art that has been possessed and their names are similar: Jeanne D'arc and Dark Mousy. There are a lot more similarities like their best friend being the child of a Police officer trying to capture there theif form. I was wondering what other anime knock-offs are there.

Watch Naruto and then watch Ninja Scroll the movie. There are some elements that I think were copied like the shadow user and the insect user. Alucard from Hellsing uses his trance technique which is oddly close to the Mangekyou that Itachi from Naruto uses.

JOINERIC, you are suggesting that Naruto copied from Ninja Scroll and Hellsing, and not the other way around, right?
Because Naruto's manga debuted in 2000, with the anime coming out in 2002, whereas Ninja Scroll hit theaters in 1993 and Hellsing's manga dates back to 1997 (TV series 2001), meaning it would've been damn tricky for Ninja Scroll and Hellsing to have been inspired by a manga/anime that hadn't been RELEASED yet. |

no no no, I meant that Naruto ripped Hellsing and Ninja Scroll. Sorry that I didn't specify. |

When Digimon first came out, due to that it aired after Pokemon did (if I remember right...I'm not good with dates...) in America at least, I thought it knocked off Pokemon completely. One probably took some ideas from the other, but it wasn't a true knock off.
One series I thought knocked off another (I need to get the dates for these...one sec...)...Okay, the series DearS came out at 2002. The series Chobits, which is very similar to DearS plot on the whole, came out, interestingly enough, the year before. See a connection? |

I like Naruto so I want it to an accident but I just dont see there being anyway something that close could be one. BTW, good job to the person who caught that, thats a good eye. |

![]() Oh yeah. I remember seeing a YTMND about that. I'm glad someone found those footages. I bet the animators didn't realize this. |

Some people call it a rip-off, sometimes a parody, and still others call it an homage. Personally, I'd say many of these cases are more like the latter. The animators were probably just really impressed with that fight scene, and figured they would see if they could work that shot/scene in there. One thing though, is that I doubt they actually expected people to catch something like that; good eye indeed.

A lot of plot devices that seem ripped off are just things that are always going to be recycled because that's what brings in the fans. I don't know how many times I've seen someone complain that this shonen ripped off that shonen. All shonen shows share a ton of elements, because those are the elements that shonen fans enjoy. The same holds true for most genres. Then again, things like that Naruto scene are a little beyond borrowing an idea or following a similar sequence of events.

Oh I know; when my friend e-mailed me the link I thought it would be something more vague, not, like, exactly the same fight x) You wonder who would be such a big fan of either Cowboy Bebop or Naruto to look at either of those fights and then think to put them next to each other. Still, I'd like to think it's a nice little CB homage. |

I've been watching a lot of Harem anime lately and I'm pretty horrified that there's almost no difference between them.
From Love Hina to Tactical Roar to Amaenaideyo!! to Ai Yori Aoshi, the characters and the plot and the romance is identical. It's actually kinda depressing watching them one after the other and realizing there's no point to watching these series unless you are fatally sexually frustrated and watch it only for the demented pictures. I don't know if that's what you mean by 'anime knock-offs'. |

Amasa, are you sure you watched Ai Yori Aoshi? Because for damn sure it's not identical to Love Hina.
The romance in Ai Yori Aoshi is actually only comparable - in my recollection - to Oh! My Goddess in that it's defined from episode one. We have two people who genuinely love each other - Kaoru and Aoi - and are forced to hide their love to keep up appearances for Aoi's family. In doing this, Kaoru also runs a gauntlet of women who believe him available - all of whom he has a familiar relationship with. Compared to the muddling Love Hina, which seemed to rotate entirely around the question of whether or not Naru can tolerate Keitaro long enough to determine whether or not they do know each other from childhood, Ai Yori Aoshi is the genuine article: A story about love, and how it effects people touched by it. |

I do agree that most harem animes are the same.. Me and my brother were talking about it last night.. It's always about some loser guy who due to some circumstance stumbles upon a "buxom" woman then stumbles into even more buxom women..
Anyway, has anyone else noticed that Flame of recca copied some elements from Yu Yu Hakusho? mostly because of the tournament theme.. ![]() |
