As much as I love Chew, I think Jason Aaron's Scalped should have won Best Continuing Series. But that's another subject.

Congrats to Viz Media. I guess they're doing something right over there.

Makes me wonder how they'd score it if they finished it. Rolling Eyes

If you don't mind my asking: What are Chew[/i] and Scalped about? 'fraid I don't follow home-grown series as closely as I should.

I'm thrilled to hear this, and impressed by the other contenders for the award. Love Five Leaves and parts of Bunny Drop (sadly can't say the same for Ayako), and I haven't been able to give A Drunken Dream a try (though I've heard it's phenomenal). I dearly love 20th Century Boys and am quickly falling for anything Urasawa has made so it's great to see that hard work recognized like this.

I've only read up through volume 11 of 20th Century Boys but I'm loving it so far. Nice to see it win more awards. I can't wait to finish it.

Chew Is about FDA agent Tony Chu. He's a "Cibopath", which means he can eat anything (and I do mean ANYTHING *shudder*), and get psychic impressions off of it. It's really hilarious, and the art is fantastic.

Scalped Is basically The Wire/The Sopranos set on an indian reservation. It's got some of the deepest writing i've seen in awhile. Even the fillers are great. Also RM guera has a way of drawing scenes that really show the despair of the situation. There's a lot of violence, but it never feels cheap.

I am glad Urasawa finally got his first Eisner after so many nominations Very Happy but I am kinda of sad he didn't got anything outside the "Asia" cathegory, even if it was nice that he was nominates as best writer/artists and best continuing series. As far as I am aware no actual manga has actually won on those... Sad

Chew and Scalped are great series though, in fact this one the Eisners I liked the nominated the best.
